I'm going to this at the end of the month as it's right down the street from my house. I am really excited about the opportunity to take pics of a balloon glow or balloons launching. Anyone have any pics of air balloons they'd like to share or ideas for good shots at one of these shin-digs?

This guy will be making an appearance, too.

Lucky you! I've never been to such an event but there must be loads of opportunites for some great photos. I'm going to the Outer Banks of NC in a few weeks and hope to get pics of people hang-gliding off the sand dunes there... somewhat similar I guess! Have fun and please post the results! Best, Ray

Hi Lisa... Your picture looks more like it was taken in Arizona where I live than Ohio. ;)

I should not admit this but there are balloon launches, usually a dozen or so, every day in Phoenix and I've only went twice. :( In my defense, though, Phoenix is a big town and it is about a 50 mile drive each way to the launch site. :)

I do have some recommendations for photography though...

First, night glow, which is one thing you are talking about, is really cool and I think you'll have a blast doing it. That happens after sunset, but the balloons are not launched. I've never done that but have always wanted to.

The best time to take pictures, though, is during morning launches. They prepare and fire up the balloons before sunrise and are usually done flying by 8-9am. You gotta be an early riser to get pictures.

It would be cool to photograph the whole event from launch to landing. But be advised it is an adventure that involves driving and chasing the balloons. :)

I don't have anything good but here are mine...

Btw... like your 4th of July pictures.

I've booked time off work for a balloon festival that's coming to my local park.
Don't know how impressive it's going to be but i'll be ready with my cam either way.
They are doing a 'floating to music' thing at night, where they all glow and float. Also fireworks, actually this sounds better and better!

Thanks everyone! I'll share my pics after the festival. :)
