I don't see in my manual what kind of cable or shutter release to buy. Does the Nikon D50 even have a place to insert the cable release because I don't see one?

| You'll need one of these. |

you need a remote release button.

I picked mine up at the local camera store for 17 bucks.

I have a remote but it doesn't seem to work as well as I had hoped. I have to be at a very specific angle for it to work and I lose shots while toying with it. It's not very sensitive and that is only at a few feet away at best. I prefer a shutter release if I can use one. Thanks though! |

| So if I am stuck with a darn remote instead of a cable release then why is it that mine (its not a Nikon remote but is supposed to pick up at 32' instead of 16') won't go off when I click it? Its not like I am at a bad angle or anything. Even directly in front of it it won't work right. At about 2' away or a bit closer (no closer than 6" or so) and at a slight angle it seems work but in BULB setting I still have to toy with it to get the darn thing to stop the shutter which over does shots like fireworks and things if you take to long toying around with it. |

you might want to try a new battery because mine works pretty well. I just used it the past few nights shooting fireworks, have also used it to take some family and self portraits ... Mine works from about 15-20 feet from the camera.
The other key to this is go in to the menu settings and change the amount of time the camera stays in remote mode... i have mine set at 15 minutes... If you leave it on default settings the camera automatically goes back to the shutter button after 2 minutes of inactivity.

Thank you.I had mine set for only one minute so that could be the problem. I will have to look into changing the battery to and see what happens.
Great info guys! Thanks! |

| I have one of those keychain remotes, and the company that I got it from used to have a model that had cable of sorts that connected the output from the remote to the sensor on the camera. I can't seem to find them anymore though. It might be worth googling though. |
