Hey gang,

I now have Photoshop CS1 and I am wondering what you all think are the features I must learn to make my photos the best they can be. Of course I want them to be the best they can before post processing, but hey, we know that can't always happen.

A lot of you seem to really know what you are doing, so besides, levels, and USM ( which is what i used in PS Elements) what else should I take the time to practice/play with?

Thanks again for the advice!!!

If you take a look at the Photoshop Basics mentorship thread You'll be in good shape for starters :-) When you've got comfortable with the workflow, you can check out the landscape Learning thread for some in-depth discussion of contrast masking and using gradients, both of which are nice to know...

I would be lost without my clone stamp, dodge and burn brushes, and layer masks. Learn the ins and outs of these three tools/topics and you've got a pretty good toolkit at your disposal.

I haven't looked at the mentorship thread, but I'd suggest layers, layers and more layers, with a healthy sprinkling of layer masks.

Don't forget the healing brush.

Find some tips and play with the program. Practice is easy, fun and free.
