Just wondering if that was near a record. Anybody top that?
I'm not really sure why I got those votes. People thought I wasn't doing basic editing? I don't think it was DNMC because people who hadn't heard the legend must have clued in when there were 3 other shots with the same theme.
Not mad, but just always wonderin' what's going through the voters mind... |

They are just jealous of you - your face is quite identifiable, I'd say! |

Maybe that's it. You know, I wasn't identifiable until I did friggin 3 self-portraits in a row (or was it 4?). I need more models in my life... |

You see that's where you screwed up. I would definitely say at least half of those 1s was because they saw who it was and well you were on the front page already.
ETA: Not sure why I said you screwed up. You friggin' ribboned!

OK, maybe if I lay low for like 3 months, people will forget what I look like... ;) Or I need to get a face transplant like Nicholas Cage. |

Btw, crayon, "dust and scratches" is one of PS filters under "noise", and allowable in basic :) |

Yup, the Doc actually PM'ed me to explain that, and I'm grateful.
I don't know what it does to an image yet exactly, but will play with it when I get home :) It's great to be learning new things! |

I suspect it was a combination of factors:
1-Badly calibrated monitors where voter could not see the image
2-Subject matter
3-Felt it could not be done in basic editing
4-They recognized your ugly mug. (just kidding)
Btw... congrats on another ribbon. :)

I had five 1's. You mean to tell me if I could just get two more I could get a ribbon? So that's what it takes... I shall strive to get more...

This is a little off topic. There seems to be a lot of forum space devoted to scoring or getting a 1, 2 or 3 vote.
BTW Doc, congrats on your second ribbon in one week! Now stop it, please!
Anyway, I think that sometimes people see thier scores drop due to the occasional 1 or 2 vote and wonder how the same image can get a 9 or 10 and also get a 1 or 2. While they do not deserve the 1 or 2, they probabaly don't deserve the 9 or 10 either. Nobody ever comments on how a 9 or 10 can skew their score upwards.
The battle is fought in the 3-8 range. The individual scores on Doc's images consitantly hover in the 6, 7, 8 range. That is why he gets averages in the high 6s, low 7s.
The point of this rant is, if someone wants to improve there average score, don't sweat the 1s and 10s, figure out how to turn the 5s into 6s, the 6s into 7s, and the 7s into 8s. That is where your score is determined. |

It's a bit like golf. Work on the short game.
Then realise how rubbish you are and give up. (Like I did.... anyone want to buy some clubs?) |

Nice! That's some sweet action. At least you don't have people blaming your ugly mug on those ones... ;)

While it's tempting to blame your "ugly mug" (I think of you as Doogie Howser myself, you don't look old enough to be a Doc), I think the more likely explanation is that "slasher pics" always get a number of very low votes in DPC no matter how good they are. So do nudes, for that matter, in all but "Nude" challenges...

Nah - never give up! Was discussing this weekend (while on the course) how you can get the irons to work one day, but the woods will be off, or you can have a great front nine followed by a horrid back nine... But you can't give up - it's just too enjoyable to go wandering around the out of doors for several hours chasing a stupid little white ball...
At least the scenery is usually nice! |

Ah, so you guys have mastered training the little white balls! I am impressed! I will grant you that mine rarely tend to wander out of sight, but they're also incredibly lazy and don't travel very far. When it comes to the "go in the hole" part, I think all of mine are horribly afraid of the dark. |

Nah, they play golf in the North, too. Just not year-round. :-) |

Actually, here on the Cape we can play virtually year-round in mild winters; we had courses open for play all but a few weeks this winter, though they can get a little scruffy :-)
I wonder what kind of balls THEY think we're talking about?
