Hmmm - the autofocus on my 16-35mm f2.8 L has died. Hopefully it will be repairable under warranty, but this is the time when I have to test whether the savings I made on eBay shpping from Hong Kong were really worth it. I just wish that it was being tested on something less expensive...!

I know Nikon is picky on what the country of origin is relative to warranty repair. I don't think canon is as harsh...but do let us know how it works out.
Remember, the story is "I was traveling in the orient and bought this lens you see. i get home and now it quits on me"
NOT the 'i illegally imported this lens form some guy named Chong Li to save some money and cheat the Queen out the VAT' LOL

Good Luck, and keep us informed of what happens as likely many others have pondered the same question.

By way of update, the repair shop accepted my invoice as proof of purchase and repairs are being carried out under warranty. Hopefully it is just the AF/MF switch that has broken, and they can fix it quickly!
