I so wanted to show all the shots I took but had to wait one and a half weeks before I could do so. But it was worth it, the shot I entered got a yellow ribbon. :) Thank you!
I choose one that I liked, some of the following have more blur. Could one have been red or blue? (not a serious question) :)))
Here are some more (the reds might be a bit hot, some need hue adjustment):
Full gallery: MotoGP2006
Or for easier browsing the pbase gallery: Pbase MotoGP gallery
Some of these are pretty near uncropped, some needed some more.
Hope you like them. :) |

That last shot is, for me, absolutely perfect. If i was voting on it, i would have given it a straight 10. No question.
Fantastic shots.

Totally agree...
That last shot is absolutely awesome! MUCH better than the yellow ribon shot IMO!
The yellow in the background of a couple of the others is a bit distracting, though I know it is hard to pan and get the shot with the correct background when these thing move so quickly! |

The one with the orange KTM bike is one of the few that I shot with a shutterspeed of 1/160s, most of the others are between 1/250 and 1/400 (the yellow ribbon one was 1/250s). 1/160s makes a huge difference but I also had more failures with it, so I didn't use use it on the faster MotoGP bikes (the KTM is a still very fast 250cc twostroke).
The reason why I haven't considered to enter that one is because I had 350 keepers and worked on the MotoGP first. Started to edit the 250's a few days ago. It has also to be said that the 640px size doesn't work that well for a photo like that, the one I posted to my portfolio is 800px and that has a lot more impact imo.
Thanks for all the comments. :) |

Laguna Seca, California in a couple of weeks time I think. But the race is sold out.
They go to much to Italy and Spain in my opinion, they should add another US race.

Haha, even if it wasn't sold out I doubt I could make it to California from Minnesota. It would be tons of fun though.

I was checking the photo data actually and was surprised at how blurred your backgrounds were considering your shutter speeds!
I was doing some panning shots with cars a few weeks ago and these were around 1/60 to 1/100!

Hard to imagine Laguna Seca sold out. I was able to buy a ticket on-line yesterday. Last year the claim was "sold out" yet I bought one two weeks prior, also. Oddly, they never even checked to see if I had one, but that's understandable. The traffic in was so heavy, that they couldn't have stopped every car (or bike). This year, no cars allowed (yay!), so I figure easy entrance, but I'll have my ticket handy!

Like the shots, basically I think the speed of the Bike is whats making the difference, I found with the slower shots in corners etc 1/60 was real good but real hard to get right, but on the straight you just couldn't get the car sharp enough much under 1/160 and yet still got good blur. |

Was that photo taken at the first corner entry?
Hmm, tv, people at american mc forums and ticket sites all said sold out. Well, if it is not sold out, only the better for all the fans who still want to go there. :)
Hope to see some shots from the race.

The MotoGP machines run much and much faster on the straights as the average race car. They loose from wing formula cars in the corners because of lack of downforce. But other cars have a tough time in the corner against a bike. The topspeed at Mugello was 334 km/h. At assen it was something like 305. For the 250's at Assen the top was 250 km/h.
I think that the distance to the action also plays a role.

Yes, it was, at the start of the race. I'll do my best to get some more this year! |
