Sorry but if I see ice cream as candy I will not consider it meeting the challenge, ICE CREAM is a DAIRY FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Candy does not belong to any of the food groups. Candy is empty worthless calories.

Yes. On this side of the pond, the term 'sweet' is used the same way our colonial cousins ;-) use the term 'candy'. We don't really use 'candy' except in the context of 'candied apple', for example.

The American Heritage Dictionary disagrees with you. It seems that not all sweets are candy, but all candies are sweets. In my humble opinion Ice cream is a pudding, and all photographs containing any kind of Ice cream, not accompanied by a legitimate member of the candy family (such as a Flake), should be severely dealt with.

can·dy
A rich sweet confection made with sugar and often flavored or combined with fruits or nuts.

sweets
Foods, such as candy, pastries, puddings, or preserves, that are high in sugar content.

But according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary, pudding is defined as:

1 : BLOOD SAUSAGE
2 a (1) : a boiled or baked soft food usually with a cereal base (2) : a dessert of a soft, spongy, or thick creamy consistency (3) British : DESSERT 1 b : a dish often containing suet or having a suet crust and originally boiled in a bag

So while we Brits tend to term everything which comes after the main course as pudding, pudding is really a certain type of dessert.

Isn't this fun? Pedant's paradise :-)

You forgot my all time favourite - Yorkshire pudding, which normally accompanies the main course, if I'm not mistaken.

Not in all cases. For example, Halvah is made from ground sesame seeds and honey or sugar, and has reasonable nutritional value, as does Marzipan (a simalar confection made from ground almonds). Meringues consist of nothing but egg white (protein) and sugar, but are baked/dried rather than boiled -- one can argue equally for their inclusion as either candy or cookies.
The biggest "problem" with chocolates is the high saturated fat content, but the addition of nuts and egg white (c.f. Snickers bar) and the generally beneficial psychoactive substances can make them at least slightly better than completely "empty" calories...

Hershey's is candy. But only people who don't know what chocolate really is think that hershey's is chocolate.

You mean Hershey's isn't chocolate? LOL I know it is more than chocolate they make TWIZZLER....mmmm the fatfree red candy and Bubble Yum the stuff kids love! Anyone need some inspiration check out some of the links found on this page...

No Hershey's is a horrible, greasy, sickly mass-produced excuse for chocolate. If you ever try the real thing, then hershey's just never comes close. Its similar to how instant coffee is nothing like real coffee, or how tinned fruit compares to fresh fruit.

Hmmm, never thought about having ot define candy, I thought it would be one of the more simpler ones. Guess I'm just naive.

Chocolate or not, I still like Hersheys. Though I admit, I had some Swiss chocolate that was out of this world. Russian chocolate = blech.

Another definition -- to the shadier side of society, candy also refers to drugs in the form of pills, etc.

It does indeed - roast beef and yorkshire pudding is a very British dish.

Might be difficult (and expensive) but you can try them yourself - at British Delights

I have no association with them and have never used them, but it looks a neat idea.

Or you could submit YOUR best interpretation of the challenge and whether anyone gets it or not, you'll know how your shot looks. Oh no, you may not win a ribbon?
