Okay, the year is half over. I know many people here set some goals at the beginning of each year, so lets see how you're doing so far. Let's also see some new goals for the second half of the year.

Here's mine:

DPC Goals for 2006:
Score 6.5 ("Decades Apart."..6.63...03/06/06)
Score 7.0 (yeah...like that will ever happen)
Score 6.0 on consecutive challenge entries (06/28/06 Complimentary Colors III & 30 Seconds or More...I know they were two months apart, but still two in a row that I entered)
Get average up to 5.25 and keep it there (5.134 at beginning of the year) (I'm pretty confident in this now)
90th percentile ("Decades Apart."..93%...03/06/06)
95th percentile
Top 10 ("Decades Apart."..8th...03/06/06)
Ribbon (less likely than a 7.0)
Get vote to comment ratio to 10:1 and select more favorites (July 1 - 151 comments to go)
Sell a print(sold two on 03/28/06)
Have fun (done 01/01/06)

Added 7/1/06 - Go a whole week, maybe more, with my scores turned off
Added 7/1/06 - Have two entries score a 6+ in the same week
Added 7/1/06 - Get average above 5.6 and stay there
Added 7/1/06 - Three straight 6+ scores

I have no goals for such a short term, so nothing to compare against.
Next five years I'd like a blue ribbon once.
Oh and I am one fav short of 100, so that would be nice. :)
Within 5 years I'd also like to be able to create consistently good portraits, studio and outdoor. The communication with people will be the biggest problem for me I think.

And a big thanks to fullmetalfinn for the 100th photo selected as favourite. :)))

2006 Goals:
Upgrade my dSLR -30D -(4/06)
Also upgraded my backup from 300D to 20D (4/06)
Frame some of my pictures and hang them
Improve my DPC average (so far so good 6/05)
Win a Ribbon

No progress on that Win a Ribbon one. Got a few pics framed and hung, but they're for the studio, nothing of mine is hanging for 'inspiration' to myself.

Business wise things are going fine. I'd planned on shooting more HS seniors, but I am finding my self quite busy as it is. Sales wise I am on track, debt wise a bit more than i had wanted but I added remodeling part of my house and equipping teh studio to the budget part way into the year so it's not a surpise to have spent more money.

For the second half of 2006...
Book a couple of weddings for 2007 (at the new rates...)
Get all my sample albums and big display prints done
Get caught up on all those little things...

Average over 5.5 achieved in 7 Deadly Sins II
Top 4 comp results >6 achieved in Environmental Portrait
Front page result achieved in 7 Deadly Sins II
Comments given > Comments received
selected as fav photographer > 25 (13) achieved 24th June
selected as fav photograph > 75 (48) achieved in DPC cinema

My new goal starting 01/05/2006 (which will probably last the rest of my photographic life) is to get at least one shot from each of my lenses in the top 30 list. The numbers in brackets next to each lens are the 'current' 30th placed shots.

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM (6.975)
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM (6.926)
Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM (6.817)
Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM (6.765) 6.811 (30th)
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro (6.716)
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS (6.401)
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 I (5.27) 6.729 (2nd)

Maybe my first set of goals were too easy? the second set will stretch for many a year ;)

My DPC Goals for '06

1. A Blue Ribbon
2. A Red Ribbon
3. A Yellow Ribbon
4. Break the highly coveted score of 7.0
5. Score a 7.25
6. Score a 7.5
7. 5 8 ribbons this year (yikes! I can dream right?)
8. Raise my average to 5.75
9. 350 650 photos faved by other users
10. I promised myself not to enter an image that will score less than a 6. It's impossible (at least in my opinion) but if by the end of the year, 75% of my entries are above 6, I will have met my goal.

Well. I've satisfied almost all of my goals. Number 10 will have to wait until the end of the year. Although I have 73% of my entries above a 6 this year.

I've added new goals for the remainder of the year.

1. Raise my average to a 6.
2. Finish consistently above the 85%
3. Make it to top 30 high scores for each lens I own
4. Meet more folks via GTGs
5. Be a mentor (if anyone would be interested)

hmm, looks like you just need the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM rikki? unless you want to make it the top 5 for each lens (and your not that far off on that one either).

*bows head in awe*

Andi, you've inspired me to do this from your previous thread :)

BTW: I think it's the 70-200mm as my 10-22mm has the second highest to date :)

Oh and that damn Sigma lens that I hardly ever use. I hope to score above a 6+ on that one :)

There you go, was trying to multi-task and see where it got me lol.

*thinks about adding the inspired quote to my sig, thats (almost) as good as a ribbon*

I am doing pretty good:

My goals for 2006:
To enter at least 52 challenges this year so far so good, I´m on track, have entered 29 this year
Get at least 1 more ribbon than 2005 (4 or more)
Beat my high score of 7.491
To ribbon with a b/w photo since I have never been good at b/w photography got close with my "Textures IV" entry

Most important of those goals is the first one and I am ahead of schedule in that one, have officially entered 29+ those that the voting isn´t finished yet (or even started) so I am ahead of schedule and can´t imagine me not meeting that goal

Only real question then is the last one and I have doubts I´ll meet that one, I need to submit more b/w stuff to improve my chances, I think I have only submitted b/w twice, in Textures IV and Free Study XI.

My DPC goals are less ambitious than most of those posted so far. Like many others, I only enter photos that I think have a chance of scoring a 6. Only one of my four 2006 entries have done that, but two were close: my '06 scores are 5.9, 5.0, 5.9, and 6.4.

As far as my average goes, my goal is simply to increase it to the next tenth. For the time being my average is around 5.4, and I'm looking forward to raising that above 5.5. When I do, I'll start looking for that 5.6 average, etc.

I came to DPC about a year and a half ago. I had a ten year time horizon to retirement at that time and simply hoped to become more accomplished at photography with the thought of earning a retirement income from it. I have a long way to go to become the photographer that I hope to be, but I think I am making progress. The most important thing to me is to remember that I am doing this for enjoyment and not to get frustated or in a hurry. Hopefully at retirement (now eight and a half years away) I will still enjoy photography and will be accomplished enough to feel justified in earning a retirement income from it.

-1000 comments given
-Get the best score for my camera (Maxxum 7D)
-Any ribbon

-Average score of 6 or better. Might've been an easier feat if not for the crappy shot I entered in the best of 2005 :)
-Try to find the good in every image, no matter the subject.
-Try to find the good in every person, no matter how big an ass they are. If you happen to be an ass, and my previous comment offended you, then quit being an ass. :)

I think I'll reach the first goal within a few months but the last goal is one that I'll probably never get to :D

Aw man, what a kind thing to say Andi, thank you very much! My own interest in photography does center around nature and wildlife but I am trying to develop in various areas. Thanks again very much for the words of encouragement, you've made my day!

Ok, I don't have any goals, but my question is this, how do you get the lines through your goals....I'm feeling pretty dump right now!
