Sorry I dropped a clanger, as I was moving things around in my portfolio and wiped the photos out.
These were taken yesterday outside our back door when a swarm of Honey Bees dropped in and amassed themselves on the wall.
The Pest Control are coming out to move them later, luckily non of the kids playing football outside were stung.

The second image would be a great shot if you could have gotten a closer view...zoomed in or macro. Both shots need some PP in my opinion, especially the second one, it looks very soft and un-contrasty.

This may sound odd but I believe that when honey bees swarm this is actually when they are at their safest. They are not protecting a hive or food storage so they really dont have any reason to attack. I have kept bees in the past and watching a swarm is really cool. I did not worry about getting in gear and was able to be pretty close and enjoy them up close. What is really fasciniating is watching them as they all get ready to leave. The ball of bees all get up and fly away in that swarm wave that you see in cartoons. Unfortunately when a hive swarms if you dont catch it right away and place them in a new box then you will have just lost at least half of your population.
Cool shots you got there. It is not everyday that you get to see nature like this. |
