...story and pics.
7 or 8 years ago, a lady had these two parrots flying free in her house. Son came along and left back door open....bye-bye birdies!! 3 days later they show up on the power lines in front of the house, started to build a small nest next to the 'hot oil' transformer, and this is how it looks now! There was a story in the paper about these returning 2 birds, and the power company decided to leave the 'little' nest there as long as it didn't interfere with the lines. Today, this nest is about 6-7 feet tall with little cubby holes all around it, and approximately 60 parrots. Smaller birds try to infiltrate there private community but are quickly chased off. Caught a couple of the birds playing peek-a-boo with me, but thought ya'll might find this as interesting as the many people who drive by to see it. I've been watching it for years myself.

Cindi - This is a really cool story!
Is this somewhere near where you live? Do the parrots migrate south for the winter?
Pretty darn amazing. Thanks for sharing! ;^) |

Nope!! Stay right here. They say that because of the transformer, which is filled with oil and very hot!! This nest is so well insulated that they survive our winters...which aren't all that bad. This is about 10 minutes from my house. :<) |

Wowsers! That's incredible. I find the most interesting part is that the original 2 birds managed to round up 60! of their friends and family to hang out with them! :-)

....only from their "mating" ! They have had babies after babies. Lot of 'in-breeding' I'm imagining!! LOL |
