I'll be doing a lot of travelling 'Up North' over the coming months and staying with my parents who don't have a pc. I can now see the bottom of my 'deep' photo related spending pot so the price (whilst not the most important thing) will play a part in my choice. It will mainly be for image storage/processing and short bursts on the web - any ideas?

When I'm back at work I'll try to push for a works pc so this might be a non starter but its best to find out now.

Thanks

I was looking for a small light laptop. Which is why I was originally looking at the Vaio SZ - Generally with laptops the smaller and more lightweight they are, the more expensive they are.

So I had narrowed it down to either;

- Sony Vaio SZ
or
- Apple Macbook

I've always been a PC user, so it's a big decision to make the move to OSX. *But* that Macbook can dual-boot WinXP. Oh, and I like the Apple ads. Oh, and the Apple is cheaper than the Sony for the same processing power. Oh, and I held a Macbook today (a black one) and really really liked it.

because of my tiny budget, i am probably going to buy a laptop for $300 or less, and strip it of everything i don't need. one of the main users of cpu space is antivirus software, so i am not going to run internet, and i won't have any antiviral software on it at all. i will probably have the most recent linux OS, photoshop, canon workshop, microsoft office (for school, otherwise i wouldn't even have this), and not much else. doing this, i should be able to get a 1.5 GHZ pentium processor and 1gb of ram running quite a bit faster than either of my familie's home computers. Then, i'll use my two flash drives for data transfer for the internet....
