It's past 11pm and I'm just back from the evening shift so excuse the grumpy tone. 'Challenges with a twist' - the likes of play of letters in Stationery and Stationary are a bit too funky to my liking. I've seen the suggestion to keep within 'object - technique - concept' line of challenges and I like this approach.

I don't see what the problem is: they are exclusive open challenges, and one of them is concept-oriented (stationary) while the other is object-oriented (stationery). Are you objecting because the two, together, are having a little wordplay fun? Why?

Mmmm, I see that the pm shift may have taken its toll - you could be right. It's just that Stationary doesn't feel a concept in its own right. But perhaps I am stirring trouble where there's none.

There's always next week : )

If there weren't at least a few people every week who feel disappointed in the challenge topics I'd be stunned. When I first signed up, I made it a point to enter every challenge (only one/week then), on the theory that part of the challenge and practical/educational experience came from trying to fulfill the assignment even when I didn't feel inspired. I think most "working" photographers shoot what they're told, not what they want ...

That's generally the way I look at it too. I pretty much did 'em all until a couple weeks ago. Scores all over the map, but at least i did the assignments. I've been taking a break lately though. A breather before WPL2 starts, which I guess is this Sunday...

As for whether "stationary" is a "concept in its own right", personally I think it's a very interesting one myself. I mean, we don't even blink at "motion" being used as a concept, do we? I like the idea of examining the nature, the core, the essence of being immoveable or at least unmoved.

I'm hoping for more than the usual number of "zen" shots in this challenge :-)
