Okay, so I took the first image, which is uncropped. Liked the dof, but it centered the bee too much. So I cropped to try to abide by rule of thirds. Know that it isn't super sharp, but wonder beyond that which seems better balanced.

| I like them both and agree that the shallow DOF is nice. I think I prefer the second one where the shadow on the right is not so obvious. Good work! |

| I personally prefer the 2nd one - the empty space on the first doesn't add anything to the composition, IMHO. cheers |

Thankyou for your responses. I would have most likely entered the first one if I was planning on putting in to the flower challenge, which I don't. I am done with challenges. Not sure if I am done permanently, but for now I need to reexamine my techniques and material. You see, I really need a lot of help with images, because my choices for what I think is good is really off base.
As to this image, I actually tried something different, which I have never done before. I have a histogram on my camera at the time of exposure, and I never have used it. I went by it this time after reading a tutorial by one of the dp people about histograms and how to read them. I took a series of flower shots. Ones without histogram guidance and others with histogram guidance. The ones which used the histogram guide are worlds better. I am now a convert to use of histograms at the time a picture is taken.

| I would definately choose the 2nd one. It's a great shot and the closer framing definately helps focus on the subject - the empty space in the first one is distracting to the overall scene. |
