Standing 20 feet behind a thirst quenched rhino is still not far enough back.

Thank goodness maturation is an ongoing process.

Why reinvent the wheel if someone else has expressed your though more eloquently than you can? (see first quotation I cited)

TechnoShroom: LOL -- nor 20 feet in any direction from a plant-gorged hippo!

If you can keep your head while all around you are losing theirs, you obviously don't know what's going on.

This quote reflects on a couple of recurring themes in this thread ...

I know some people feel that marriage as an institution is dying out, but I disagree. And the point was driven home to me rather forcefully not long ago by a letter I received which said: "Darling, I love you, and I cannot live without you. Marry me, or I will kill myself." Well, I was a little disturbed at that until I took another look at the envelope, and saw that it was addressed to occupant ...

Speaking of love, one problem that recurs more and more frequently these days, in books and plays and movies, is the inability of people to communicate with the people they love: husbands and wives who can't communicate, children who can't communicate with their parents, and so on. And the characters in these books and plays and so on, and in real life, I might add, spend hours bemoaning the fact that they can't communicate. I feel that if a person can't communicate, the very least he can do is to shut up!

--Tom Lehrer, epilogue to Alma 1965

I've learned that you cannot make someone love you. All you can do is
stalk them and hope they panic & give in.

Are you trying to tell me I should panic? You're stalking me aren't you?

oooooooooh I'm busted! You give up?? :D

No, but I will give IN...

hey, at least you cite your quotations. :) btw, be warned that Mark Twain didn't say half of the things that he said.

Nor did Yogi Berra say half the things he's supposed to have said ...

A woman had just seen her first Shakepearean production, an exemplary production of Hamlet. Afterwards, she remarked to her friend, "I don't know why people think that play's so great -- it's just a bunch of quotations strung together!"

With only an exception or two, every poster so far is under 40. I can only feel pity at this level of cynicism in a group so young.

And if you all just forgot and left the sarcasm tags off, ... well, then never mind. Carry on.

I learned that if you're not getting flak, you're not over the target.

Um... Nobody is over 40? Does that mean that the U.S. Social Security 'Crisis' is really a Hoax?

I've learnt that....
If I've lost something it will always be in the last place I look.
I will always be checked at airports even if I'm not wearing a low cut top.
I'll always get visitors when my house is at it's most untidiest.
Always get red lights when in a hurry.
The ads are always on at the same time when all I want is music in my car.

40 was a long time ago ..

but As I Mature.....
i have found out a couple of things

the only person that can make you happy is yourself
the only thing that can bring you luck is beliving you are lucky
if you don't have destinations you cant get anywhere
& finally
life sucks then you die

If I've lost something it will always be in either my sons toybox or my daughters purse.
I will always be checked at airports especially if I'm wearing a low cut top.
I'll always get visitors when my house is at it's most untidiest and it will be my mother!
Always get red lights when in a hurry then go through them and get a ticket.
The music always on at the same time when all I want is a traffic report in my car.

...being a parent is the hardest thing I've ever done.

...being happily married is one of the easiest.

...the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it!" is true.

...little decisions, the ones you make several times every day, are important.

...hurtful words can never be completely taken back. Far better to swallow them in advance.
