How much preparation of your photo submittals do you do in camera raw before preparing in photoshop, and what are your steps? |

I just started shooting RAW. I shoot Canon and am currently using their software to convert...
I've heard that Adobe has a bit of noise reduction... I like to do a bit of noise reduction on most of my pics these days... a gentle touch goes a long way... If that step can be done at the RAW conversion, I believe that it is probably the best time for it... It's also very early on...
I leave most of my contrast and curves adjustment to Photoshop at a later time, but I do make the adjustments in RAW if it is a difficult shot, rescuing a bad pic that I need or if I really want to work the pic hard...
I do all WB correction in RAW now, and that's the bulk of the hands on stuff...
Renaming is done quite nicely by Canon's RAW converter program as well...
I'm pretty new though... and could hardly be called 'good'... :) |

There are about a zillion forum threads regarding RAW usage and workflow. Perhaps start with a forum search or two. |

I normally do some or all of the following in RAW conversion:
- Color temperature adjustment (almost always tweaked)
- Exposure adjustment (almost always tweaked since I shoot to "expose to the right")
- Vignetting compensation (occasionally, more since conversion to full-frame)
- CA correction (rarely)
I normally do not sharpen or perform noise reduction in RAW conversion, leaving those processes to be performed by more sophisticated tools.

Informative as always kirbic... a quick question, some of the things you mentioned do not appear to be available in Canon DPP, notably the vignetting correction... what program do you use? |
