Okay, so most small towns and even many cities have a section in the newspaper dedicated to little tidbits from the police blotter or 911 calls.

Here are 3 of my recent fav's from my own hometown newspaper. (We post these on the board at work for all to enjoy).

1) A man reported that a light post at Santa Rita park had fallen on his car. Police arrived and detained the man for driving on a pedestrian walkway, public intoxication and destruction of public property.

2) A caller reported at 1:15 a.m. that 3 women were standing in the middle of Junction Creek road singing opera. The caller could not identify the song.

3) A caller complained that teenagers were wasting water Police notified the caller that it was a chairity fund raiser for the high school.

Our local paper usually has some real doozies, but this is the most interesting today --

Woman stuffs shirt with kitchen knives

A Clyde woman let a friend into her house to use the phone June 14 and noticed that the friend had something in her shirt when she left.

The woman followed the friend out into the yard, and when she yelled, the friend dropped several kitchen knives on the ground. A heated argument followed, and the woman called the sheriff’s office to make a report. She told deputies that a set of expensive knives were taken from her house recently while she was in the hospital. Those knives, she said, were worth about $1,500, but the knives in the yard were a brand made in China. The friend told deputies that she took the knives because she thought they were hers.

The woman wasn’t sure if she wanted to press charges. She told deputies she would think about it.

Many of THESE are humurous to me. I visit two or three times each year, and love what they write. This one is the best from this week:

A missing stop sign was not in the alley where it belonged.

The local Berkely paper has a rather droll blotter-writer -- he takes some heat from the readers for it ever so often. Here are a couple from earlier this month:

Trash fire
Police and firefighters were called to the 2300 block of Channing Way at 5:20 a.m. last Thursday, where they found a curbside recycling bin ablaze.

No suspects were located, and the fire was confined to the blue bin. When asked what kind it was, {Officer} Galvan responded, "Paper, obviously. Bottles and cans don't burn."

Beauty shop hit
When the tall fellow with dreadlocks walked into Ginny's Beauty Shop on University Avenue just before 11 a.m. last Thursday, he was looking for cash, not a haircut.

A small black pistol he flashed was enough to convince the beauticians to grant his wish, and he had fled by the time officers arrived.

Bandits in furs
Four young women, two of them wearing fur-lined black jackets, stole a Berkeley womans wallet and cell phone when they braced her in the 2400 block of Haste Street just before 2 a.m. Saturday.

UC Police Deparrtment officers found the wallet nearby, and three of the suspects were located within minutes--in part because of their unique garb.

"You shouldn't wear fur in Berkeley," said Galvan.

The suspects were all Oakland juveniles, he said

My Mom sent me this one this morning, from my old hometown newspaper (she still subscribes).

"A 911 caller reported hearing multiple gun shots from a neighbors house. 4 Units and an ambulance responded. The occupant was asked to turn down his video game."
