Signed it only after checking Snopes. Does NOBODY see 1984 coming? Is it really this ridiculous in our lifetime?
(and in case it wasn't clear, I signed it and thanks for the link)

in my opinion, artists have been putting out some serious crap, and wouldn't have made much money anyway, besides big names like eminem who are going to sell their 5 million copies regardless of people copying the songs. this is a disturbing proposal and i think it just shows the senility of some congresspeople and their inability to help plan for the future
oh and people will find a way around anything, they have before and they will again...so this is even more rediculous
the proposal is like the government saying they're going to put radar guns and cameras on every highway in order to catch people that speed. people are still going to speed, and some are going to find a way to jam the cameras and radar

its a complete abrogation of the rights guaranteed by the US Constitution. Its guilty before proven innocent, its big brother in a big way (1984 as mavrik succinctly pointed out). This is how it begins, where it begins. The spot people look for 20 years from now and ask themselves, as they cower under their beds, hoping to be both unheard by "them" and unseen by "them", 'how did we come to this?' |

If this BS is for real, it is bigger than Prohibition and it will never fly. People whose congressman are directly involved in this should contact them directly and let them know that they WILL NOT be re-elected.

What happens when xx million people take the police thing out of their computer? xx million people in the slammer for 5 years? Companies without employees for at least 5 years?
Is this the time to buy stocks in prisons and dump all the other stuff? :)

I'm wondering when businesses are going to realize that they are trying to stop a flash flood with a toothpick fence. They should realize that this is a new paradigm, a new way of doing things.
I subscribe to emusic.com and download all I want: and the artists get paid for it. Emusic is one place that realizes that they are going to have to work WITH technology instead of against it. The music and media industries should join us in this century.
