Anyone who is interested in a midrange Nikon should take note of this especially, although there are also rebates on lower end cameras as well. $200 rebate on Coolpix 4500 and 5000, $100 rebate on Coolpix 5700, and $50 rebate on Coolpix 2000, 2500, or 3500. The rebate is good from April 1st (now) until June 30th.
I'm eyeing up the possibility of getting a 4500 for about $300 if I can come up with the money. (insert gripe about being a poor college student here) |

that is crazy. what an awesome deal. you can find approved online resellers of nikon products that sell the 4500 for around 450 i think, which would put this deal at 250 bucks for a good camera. that's an amazing deal

Wow, that is a deal. A quick check of online merchants yielded a low price of $258 after rebate, but the seller had a crummy rating (per resellerratings.com). Best price from a reputable firm was net $278, still an incredible deal! |

This is a tremendous deal. Kirbic, where did you see one that would work out to $278 after rebate? I've been searching online and haven't come across one. Only refurbished, which wouldn't be eligible for the rebate.
I have some things I'll sell on eBay to buy a new camera.

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix 5000...online merchants have it between say... $750.... to $1200.... Best Buy had it on sale for $525....I had a $100 dollar mail in rebate on top of a 10% discount.. total cost for the Camera...$372, now I see.. waiting a few days... another $100 dollars off...lol, If the Camera was still available....I think I got a good deal...but I also heard.. that the learning curve was steep with this Camera....lol I think I can handle it.. |

I did a search through cnet.com:
//electronics.cnet.com/electronics/resellers/0-6613935-311-9984928-3.html?fl=0&tag=st.ce.6613935-311-9984928.sort.price
and came up with:
//www.butterflyphoto.com/viewitem.php?IndexID=2263&RefTag=cnet
I have not shopped with them, but checked with resellerratings:
//www.resellerratings.com/seller4576.html
They appear reputable, but with only two reviews I'm not entirely confident.
Still the final price is $268 + $20 shipping after rebate.

Don't use butterfly photo.. I happened to also find them as a reputable low price, but they didn't mention the rebate on their website, so I figured I'd check to see if something taht seemed too good to be true really was. The rebate says the purchase must be from a "nikon authorized dealer or reseller", so I emailed butterfly photo and asked if they qualified. I got this responce:
"Dear valued customer
we are not autherized dealers so the rebate would not apply."
So be warned everyone.. if you're thinking about buying a camera based on this rebate you'd be best to check to see if your purchase will qualify.
I'm currently in the process of trying to get a list of authorized dealers (particularly websites) from nikon, but they responded to my email with a phone number to a different department, so I've got to check up on that.
I know Ritz Photo, Walmart, Best Buy, and Office Depot are all fine, but those also tend to be the higher priced places. |

Good catch Jon,
I did some more exploring as well, since I was thinking of picking up a 4500 for my wife. Some of the low price resellers are now advertising the price as "after rebate", which **probably** indicates they are authorized.
I'm guessing that some other low-price sellers are illegally pocketing the rebate, though how they can get away with this, I cannot imagine.
Too bad Nikon has again put in the "authorized reseller" clause; all this really does is frustrate the consumer who has to figure out who is "authorized", and inevitably generate bad press when those who are denied the rebate because they bought from unauthorized relellers air their dissatisfaction on the web.
I did send Nikon USA a message with the URLs of a couple resellers who have prices "too low to be believed", including the aforementioned Butterfly Photo. |

Kirbic, and Wingy, thanks for your input. I just found this one:
Royal Camera
This is the claim on their website:
"Your receipt is good for all manufacturer's warranties."
I think I'll email Nikon and see what they say about it.

I've seen other sites that say the warranty on the camera is good, but upon emailing them they have said that the rebate would not apply.
Best of luck to you though.
If I happen to find a particularly good price at a store that I've confirmed would qualify for the rebate, I'll be sure to post it. But since the rebate is good until the end of june I've been occupied with other things lately and haven't gotten around to checking up on a number of stores. |
