How do you find people or things to shoot? I have my new camera and I feel like I don't have anything to take photos of. Also can you take a Nikon into the rain or do you need a special rain coat for the camera?

What do you like? For example, I have a great love for music and also architecture. I find I do my best work with the least effort when shooting those things I love! Look at my port and see... |

the d50 isn't waterproof...
Just go walking around and shoot whatever you find. Go for a walk in the park or go check out stuff at night...or follow challenge suggestions and set out on a quest to find something you think would fit the challenge.
the d200 is ok for the rain as is the d2x...although not "water proof" more like "water sealed" or ok in the rain (not for submersing in the water)...and you'd have to use a water sealed lens too, as not all are...the 70-200 2.8 VR for example is...the 18-55 for example is not.

I have taken mine into the rain but not pouring rain. I don't let it get to wet or I wipe it right away. I'm not sure how it will effect it but I don't take the chance.
To find things to shoot I have my own little box of what I call "misfit props". It's just some stuff I have collected here and there or bought that I never know if I can use. Usually I just ride within a 10 mile radius to find other things, places, animals to shoot. Sometimes I have to travel an hour or so for something special I really want to shoot. I just keep my eyes open wherever I go knowing I may be able to use something sometime, or some place. There are things to shoot all around us all the time. I also keep my eyes open in the local paper to see what may be happening in town or in surrounding towns that may be a photo opportunity. |

While shooting along the rocky shore in Antigua, a larger wave hit the rocks at my feet. I lifted my D70 high above my head and some water hit the underside near where the battery door is. I wiped it off immediately, but too late...that little bit of water fried the camera. The repair bill was about $285.00.
I've had my D70 in the rain and shielded it with no problem, but I am very careful about not allowing the underside to get splashed now. I'd suggest putting it in a ziplock bag with a hole cut in the end to put the very end of the lense through. Secure that end of the bag around the lens with a rubber band. Get some microfiber towels at an auto parts store to wipe off any water that gets on the lens and camera. The idea for the ziplock bag was suggested recently (by bear music I believe) on another thread discussing flexible waterproof housings. |
