So I went to use my 18-55 lens yesterday, and it would not focus. So I checked everything on it, and even attemped to zoom it and well, its not working. I took it to our local camera shop where I bought it and was told that someone had to have turned the focus ring while it was in Auto (which I know for a fact did not happen) and therefore it was not covered under warranty, but for 125 I could either get it fixed or a new one (mind you I donĂ¢€™t have the money to spare). She said my only other option was using it on manual focus, but dang it, how am I going to catch anything quick enough to focus it. Anyone here know how to repair lenses or atleast able to give me some words to make me less depressed? I did not use it a lot, but there were times I did. Should I attempt to send it back to Nikon and see what they say or just live with it until I can buy another? If another, what to buy? I currently have my 18-55 (broke), 50 F 1.8 and my 55-200 kit lens.

i would look into other means to try to get it repaired under warranty. try another nikon dealer. or deal direct with a nikon repair facility.

Do call Nikon directly. If it's still under warranty and has not been mistreated, they should fix it.

Thats the problem, the camera shop says its been mistreated, and all they do is send it back to Nikon. Im the only one that touches the equipment and iv never done twisted the lens.

skip the shop
& contact Nikon directly

That's why you should stop dealing with the camera shop and call Nikon. You can speak to them directly, and make arrangements to send them the lens. They will look at it at their shop and make a determination.

lots of low paid customer service people try to minimize the work they need to do. it's easier to turn you away than fill out the forms, box up the product, deal with the customer inquiries about when it will be returned, etc... turn you away so they can sell something to the next guy.
