Uhm ok, this has been bothering me for a while...

I've got a few USB 2.0 HISPEED devices and every time I plug them in, my computer tells me that the devices 'could run faster' if I plug them into a USB2 host port...

My computer is an Acer C302xci Tablet and has two USB 2.0 ports... I don't have any non-USB2 ports...

I considered that I may be running into some troubles because of a single controller and the mouse that I have might be causing the drop-down to USB 1.1 protocol because of the way things work that way, but it does the same thing with no mouse plugged in...

So the little pop-up bubble comes and it says to click on it for more details... It says that the ports listed in bold type face are able to support USB2 HISPEED connections. Here are the details, bold accurate:

- Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD
-- USB Root Hub (6 Ports)
-Unused Port
-Unused Port
-Unused Port
-Unused Port
-Unused Port
-Unused Port

So I'm a little confused... What the heck is going on? I've checked my USB device in the troubleshooter and it says that it's working fine. A google did not turn up any updated drivers (last one was 01/01/2002) and I've already updated the driver to the one on the CD... Which I am going to hazard a guess was the same one when I built the system the first day I had it...

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you for your time!

Is it possible that this could be due to the type of USB cable I use?

you can easily test the speed of usb 1.1 vs 2.0 to see if you are travelling at the proper speeds. usb 1.1 runs at 12mbps and usb 2.0 runs at 480mbps, so what you want to do is a mass media transfer using USB, put a GB of photos on a memory card, plug you're card reader in and see if it transers quickly or not, if it's 2.0 you'll get the transer in about 10-20 seconds 1.1 will be MUCH longer than that. If it's not transferring at the speed then check the cable, that could be it. Although I've never heard of that happening it's completley fesable

make sure in your bios that it is on highspeed usb and not fullspeed,
also make sure you have a driver /usb universal controller downloaded for this device

If that message comes up, that means that your device is usb 2.0 and you have a port that's usb 2.0, but the port that you are sticking the device into is not usb 2.0. Could you possibly have been mistaken about your usb ports? Try plugging the device into the usb ports in the back, not the front, those are your true motherboard ports and I suppose those are usb 2.0. The ones in the front are more than likley to be feeding off of something else on the board. And also check your bios to make sure the usb 2.0 is enabled or the speed is set right.

Thanks guys... I will have to wait until later to do this though, I just started a batch conversion on 675 images...

Step 1 of 3... The scary thing is that the rest of this is going to be much more 'me' intensive...

Anyhow, I will double check the BIOS.

As for which USB ports I'm using, it's a laptop with only two ports.

The computer is telling me that the ports are USB 2.

I have NEVER seen a gig move in 10-20 seconds... That would be more than a little sweet though!

I did a google search and it appears that the latest driver for the host controller is 01/01/2002 (see my original post)... If I didn't have a driver for it, it wouldn't work at all I would presume... or at least it would show up as a yellow question mark?

I will check this later. Thank you.

My hardware profiles in the control panel list 4 USB Root hubs and 4 USB host controllers. Only one is Enhanced.

What the heck?
