I need a backpack to store my slr in. I looked at the lowepro stuff, and the one I purchased at best buy didn't fit the camera very well so I returned it. I was thinking about getting that lowepro sling bag 100aw? I think it is, but I am concerned that it is not going to fit corectly either. Anybody use this bag?

I have the 200AW and I think it works great! It fits my Canon 20D with lens attached, three other lenses, all of my Cokin filters, remote, batteries, Epson P-2000, etc. It's nice to be able to get into the backpack without setting it down. And it's comfortable. I'll never go back to a "standard" backpack.

I tried the lowepro backpack that carried a laptop, had room to pack stuff and then at the bottom was the camera case, and it didn't fit the camera very well at all.

i have the kata r-103 backpack and like it a lot. very comfortable, even when fully loaded w/ camera, lenses, laptop, etc... i'd like to get the w-92 so that i can have a smaller bag when i don't need all my gear...

i also like the look of one of the crumpler bags (keystone or karachi outpost). i mainly like them because you have to take them off to open them, making them much safer for travel...

If you're going to a shop to buy camera bags, then you may as well take your camera and lenses and any major accessories (e.g. flash) with you, then you can see for yourself if they will fit into you bag of choice or not.

I have the slingshot AW200, its a bit bigger than the 100 and I tend to use it when just taking 1 body and 1-2 lenses for a walk. I like the fact you can open the bag without taking it off (as long as you remember to zip it up before slinging it back on your back).
I also have the AW PhotoTrekker, its so big I now struggle to carry it when full and just use it to move my gear when travelling and will pick and choose lenses to go out with.
I'd suggest a backpack rather than shoulder bag if your doing a lot of walking - much better for you :)

I have the Slingshot 200 and am very happy with it. Glad that I can just swing it around when I need to get something out something, better that having to take it off etc. Fits my D70 with lens on, 3 other lenses, filters, batteries, speedlight sb-800, extension tubes and a few odds and ends with room to spare.

Yes, but only use them if you have a light-weight tripod. With a heavy tripod (e.g. most Manfrottos) it will be so lop-sided that it's seriously painful to carry. Much better to get one where the tripod mounts vertically down the centre of the backpack.
Not quite the same, but related - I used to have a bag (Lowepro Mini Trekker 100) where the tripod could be strapped on underneath. Even there, the weight of my tripod head was enough to make the backpack awkward to carry. After all my gear was stolen, I used the opportunity to upgrade to the Mini 200 which allows the tripod to be carried down the centre of the pack. While it's a little more awkward to get cameras out of the backpack, that's a small price to pay compared to the backpack+tripod being too awkward to carry anywhere.

Got my lowepro trekker AW Classic of eBay and got it for quite a bit less than any of the local shops could do...

I decided on this one: It has the features I think I will like, and a center mounted tri-pod which will do me well since the new tripod I just bought is close to 8lbs. It is a Tamrac 5574.

boom,
I am in the exact same position. I want a pack that can hold my camera stuff AND my heavy tripod. And being we are both in Colorado, you can understand that for hiking, especially high altitude, I want a COMFORTABLE and secure pack. Please let me know your honest opinion on this one. My main problem area is usually the shoulder straps cuts into my chest/shoulders too much when hiking. Keep me updated.

Just give up now :-( I have found finding the bag is harder then the camera and lenses - you will certainly end up buying several. I settled on the Burton Zoompack and it's good but not that comfortable for somebody tall. I did find a better one but it's no longer available (a mountainsmith backpack). Good luck :-)

I love my Lowepro pack
Easy access.. fits the camera well and the compartments are adjustable which is helpful. There is room for some clothes or pretty much anything you need as well as a laptop.. Bonus for me and my life is that it fits under airplane seats pretty well for carry on. Perfect for my needs fo'sho!! :)

Believe it or not, I use a CamelBak backpack (without the water bladder, of course). But I don't carry much gear - heck, I don't OWN much gear. Wouldn't hold a laptop and the camera/lens isn't "secured" in the compartment - I just stick them in there. Works for walking or riding, though, which is nice.

I am residing in Downtown Denver. But try to make it up into the mountains often. And it is becoming more often as I live here longer.

Thats cool. I worked downtown for a while till I settled here in Castle Rock. I am thinking about putting a backpack trip to the top of some peak in late august. My goal is to camp just below timberline, hang out under the stars (well, in a tent anyway) head to the summit early morning for some grand landscapes, and then hike back, and maybe just camp somewhere along the way. If I get this together you are welcome to come.
