Ok my question comes from the term spot editing. Is changing the color in certain areas (selectivly)using mask or lasso's or any technique allowed if the rules say no spot editing. Thanks

In basic, you can't used pixel containing layers for editing, thus a mask layer flies right out the window. Selections on any single part of the photo are not allowed, select all is (border creation).

conversely, every one of these is allowed in Advanced(member only) challenges. Caveat: you can't create an effect or element that wasn't there before, and removing too much will get you into trouble also.

Understood in advanced editing, but basic is where not spot editing would be applied. So what is your opinion if it is done in basic editing?

Your question was pretty well answered concerning basic. None of those things would be legal.
