I need lighting, not sure what kind.
I need it portable, I do photos for various non profits and daycares and I have to go to them. Most of my subjects will be children but I would also like to be able to use it for items... (challenges?). I just need a good lighting kit at a very reasonable price. I don't charge for what I do.

I need a backdrop support as well as backdrops... I found some good prices on ebay, but not sure of the quality.

In a nutshell, can I do this on $300-400 bucks. If so, where and what is best?

Thanks in advance guys

Edit any suggesting for keeping my sensor clean? pec pads and?

Christine

Portable support system

I'd also find sand bags to weight the legs down if you are using this around children.

Background paper is fairly cheap, comes in lots of colors and is easy to work with.

Single light kit

Hot shoe to PC adapter - I'm not sure if your camera has a PC terminal or not. If not, you will need something like this or the one made by Nikon.

That's about as much as I can do with $400. It's a decent setup and you can do quite a bit with a single light source.

I forgot to mention. If you or someone you know is industrious, the background support can be made of PVC pipe from a hardware store for under $15.

Keep watching that. It looks like a good deal, if the dealer looks reputable.

I can increase the budget if need be. And With good directions I can build anything.

That light kit on E-bay is a continuous light source. Meaning they get hot. Might not be the best for children.

Also, children have a tendency to be figity and continuous lighting doesn't freeze motion like strobe lights would.

the first one is continuous light source also?

That looks like a pretty good deal, but I can't find a brand name to know if the strobes are good or not. On paper they look good for what you need though.

The first one, not the second. The second is a strobe kit, what you need.

I like the second kit a LOT better than the 3rd one. The third one looks a bit cheaply made to me.

whoops, ... getting sleepy LOL... yeah, if I were going to get any of the kits you showed me, I'd go with the second. Looks like a decent kit with a nice build quality.

That second kit looks like it will have everything you need other than the background stand. You can build that and well, the patience you're gonna have to get on your own ;-)
