Well, I brought this on myself. A Co-worker brought in his family reunion shots.Taken with a disposable. I had to make a bitchy comment about composition, and how to get better light on faces. He got a little defensive and then came back and asked me if I could get him better prints out of his Photo CD.
I expected Grain, but what's with all the crud? Dont they ues puff brushes any more?
Do they Scan the Negitives ot the Prints?
My attempt was Neat image, Auto levels, auto curves, 50% grey overlay. Don't dare use usm.
Don't remember what I did on this one
I think I'll ask for the negs and re-scan (or scan prints?)
Luckily I don't think he's expecting much.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Edited to add 2nd pair of images

Sometimes hard to bring a bad shot back from the dead...if you can get some better to work with try it again...if not I would just let it stay dead...unless this is a very important photo, wouldn't know why but there is always that chance.

Photo CDs are normaly bad scans of the prints. Basicly so if you want decent prints you have 'order' them. They put on a wierd gloss that creates the texture look when scaned so you won't be able to reproduce the images at high qaulity, and that they don't lose money on prints.
Advice. After looking at the images quote him a price for 'image repair' and still see if he wants them done. Try explaining to him that you where offering suggestions for 'next time'. And that some images are 'beyond' repair.
