I'm trying to have some photos printed but its cutting off the tops and bottoms of the photos. i have them sized 640Xwhatever and its not working. i looked at the help section and it says for 4X6 prints the resolution size must me 400X600. so i changed the image size to 600X?? and its still not working. how do i change the resolution size in PS Elements?

Thanks

First, the suggested minimum of 400x600 resolution is not very good. That's only 100 dpi which is very low. 150 dpi is the lowest DPCPrints will accept and it's better to have much more than that.

I'm not sure how elements works but is probably set up similar to Photoshop. Say you have a landscape (horizontal) you want printed, go to image/file size and enter 4 inches for height and 6 inches for height at 300dpi. Check the first 3 questions under "Quality and Resolution" on DPCPrints for a better explanation. Maybe you just switched the width and height and height by accident.

This is assuming you haven't cropped to a different aspect ratio or anything. Good luck and let us know what happens.

A 4x6 print must have a ratio of 1.5 to 1. The actual size (above the minimum) nor resolution make any significant difference.

Before printing, you need to crop your photos so the long side is 1-1/2 times as many pixels as the short side; examples would be:

900 x 600
1200 x 800
1500 x 1000
1800 x 1200

etc... generally, the more pixels, the better the quality. Right now, I think the aspect ratio is off and the printer is cropping the photos for you automatically, and not in the right place.

I use them. I upload at full size- for me that's 3264 pixels. I do have to adjust the cropping but not a big deal really.

I ordered some last week for my first client and just got them in. They look wonderful.

I also ordered a bunch of sailboats and ships for a friend back home for Fathers Day. He just got them yesterday and said they looked amazing. I was wondering how they would turn out since I did have to crop in a bit to make the ships bigger.

I really like them, doesn't take long to get what I order, and for the quality they are very reasonable.

I've had a pretty good experience with Mpix so far, except for an order that I recieved today. I uploaded the full size versions and used their crop tool rather than uploading different crops for each photo. I recieved them today, very quickly I might add, but the tops of two of the 5x7's were cropped very tightly at the top coming extremely close to the tops of the subjects heads. I know when I used their crop tool that I left much more room than that. So, needless to say I'll be reordering those two and cropping them myself (most likely with a little more room than I normally would) Luckily, this order was for a shoot I did for a friend of mine so it wasn't all that big of a deal and since they came so quickly to begin with, much quicker than expected it didn't really do any major damage. All the rest came out just fine.

Look at the table at the end of this page from Dry Creek Photo for information on adding extra pixels to compensate for "automatic printer adjustments" for various printers (Fuji, Noritsu, etc.).
