What!! you are already putting the beer in the fridge to make sure it is cold!!
@ Carl, the Prius is the right car for the current Gas prices. Enjoy the trip.
I would have to drive about 700 km, but got relatively cheap flight tickets. Means I can work a full day on Friday, then head up, also be at work again on Monday after the weekend. |

Hang on a second: beer in the fridge? What kind of sacrilege is that to an Englishman? Beer should be warm and flat, just like nature intended, and called something like "Old Rectors Scrotum" or "Dead Sheep Nectar"! :-P
As to vodka "on ice", that takes me back a few years to student days where the unsuspecting fools who liked their ice "pure" realised far too late that the totally clear ice cubes were pure frozen vodka ... |

No booze will turn into icecubes, you have been had :) vodka, rum, gin etc. will turn very very cold in a freezer, it will be "thicker" in a way, but it will not turn into icecubes, well not untill hell freezes over, and that might take a while.

when i was 16 I used to top the bottles of vodka my parents kept in the freezer. i'd take some out, and replace it with water. once i had taken too much the mixture froze...instantly busted.
that sucked. |

A quick Google search revealed:
The freezing point will depend on the alcohol content. If we assume the vodka is around 80 proof, that is, 40% alcohol.
95% ethanol (Everclear, if you like) freezes at about -110°C, which is about -200°F. Assuming a linear relationship we estimate that 40% ethanol freezes a bit below -40°C = -40°F. (Actually, 40% ethanol freezes at almost -30°C according to the Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.)
Most kitchen freezers won't go that low. But you should be able to freeze vodka or Jaegermeister with dry ice, which is at a temperature of about -100°C.

yeah, they were sticklers for those silly 'law' things we have here about minors and alcohol consumption. not only that they wouldn't buy me a Smash-up Derby set. I was so hard done by. no wonder i'm like this now.

Sounds like my family, no money whatsoever. And now I know that my 5 brothers in fact did have a better life, I have always had this gnawing suspicion.
Pedro, AA and the 12 steps could work for you, and you will be joined by some DPC-updatebutton-anonymous-12-steppers.
Wish I didn't have that ticket to Iceland on July 12th. You are going to have so much fun.

It is always a blow to one's sense of memory and nostalgia when the laws of physics reveal an impossible assumption about one's past.
What makes the whole vodka ice cube thing so horribly bad is that I swear I got drunk by them when I added them to my diet coke!
Oh! the power of subliminal persuasion by one's peer group - bastards!
Sad also to admit that I was not only poor but naive too. It wasn't until I was an adolescent that I realised my parents insistence that I wear boxing gloves to bed to prevent sheet staining had a totally different connotation to me thinking my hands must have perspired a lot at night.
Sigh :-)

Please let me know if there is still a space available and if so, how do I go about booking? Coincidence will have it that I'll be in Germany at that time and I'd really like to attend. |

The 15th will be the Workshop thingy, with the people mentioned just above the vodka freezing discussion.
The 16th will be the "walk around town" gettogether, where everybody is welcome.
But Majanka is right, where do we meet up in Muenster on sunday?
(Edit: Sorry, sticky fingers)

Maybe we need to think more in terms of a time before a place as I suspect that there may be some serious hangovers being nursed from the day before! Dare I suggest 10:00 at the Stadtplatz Hotel, in the coffee shop? :-P

Well, just goes to show I am getting old in that I ignored the obvious solution. Last time I did that (i.e. drinking non stop for 36 hours) I was an undergraduate engineer on a weeks field study in Oxford where some fool had decided that the engineers should be domiciled for the week in a theology college!
I think the college warden's worse fears were confirmed when a small convoy of cars arrived and a bunch of worse-for-drink engineers fell out, laughed when they saw what kind of college it was - and promptly installed 3 barrels of beer in the refectory!
Sigh! And not an ice cube in sight!
