I went to my friend's house to take osprey pictures at his marsh, and he told me that his mom had bought a new camera. i knew she had been looking at slrs, so i asked if it was canon. he said yes. I asked if it was a 30d, and he said yes. we went in to look, and there were two. i just assumed that she wanted one for each lens she had, because she has four old pentax slrs that were for that purpose. but, when i talked to her later, she said she ordered two by accident...
we were talking about it, and later she asked if i wanted to upgrade. i told her no, because i really cant spend the several hundred, and she said no, she wanted to trade and give mine to her son! i asked if she was sure, she said yes, and now he has a 20D, and i have a 30D!!!
so, the point of this thread is to ask about new features. i think i knew all of the 20d ones, and i would like to get to know this camera just as well. i figured out the new burst options, and the lcd screen, but i would like clarification as to what the picture styles do, how to use the RGB histogram, and any other new things the camera can do. haven't had much time to play around, but i am off to my sister's graduation (where i'll be taking pictures of course). i'll be bck and esponding in several hours. thanks in advance for the help...
so... i know about the cameras, so i'm teaching my friend (he doesn't even know photography at all... i'd say he's the luckiest - the 20D as his first camera!!?)... and helping his mom (she knows mostly about aperture, shutter speed, lenses, but she doesn't know anything about digital)
edit to add: the osprey photos turned out great! was this a good day or what?

I didn't know things like that happened in real life. |

talk about being at the right place at the right time.
Did you tell her it was a bad deal for her. She was giving you a new 30D ($1300) and you were giving up a used 20D ($900) or did you pay the difference?

Sweet deal!
And btw: I just paid $825 shipped for my mint condition 20D so it's even a bigger gap than rex said. |

I found stuff on that site about the d70 I didn't pick up in the manual...it really covers a good bit of stuff.

our families have been close friends since i was two years old...
she knows that there was a value difference, and she thought mine was alot worse, because she was saying that it would be a good "starter" camera...
i didn't bother to say how similar the stats really were

I'll take one too...heck, I'd take a 300D (with lens of course). :)
Congrats on the 30D, what a lucky situation to be in.
