As a geologist and megalomaniac, I've always enjoyed watching movies with a geologist (seismologists & palaeontologists etc. included) as the hero.
A thread a while back reminded me of the special joy I take in watching my wife guffaw as I look at her with that, "damn, I'm hot" expression when we watch one of these, usually B-movies.
Let's face it. Chicks want to be with geologists. I can't count the number of times I've been out in public somewhere and someone asks me what I do. Any hot chicks within earshot are instantly all over me, which causes a ripple-effect and I'm eventually swarmed by hot chicks. It's a burden I've learned to bear.
Here are some movies I can recall off the top of my head, that I've already seen. But I'd like to find some I haven't seen for my rental or purchase pleasure.
Can anybody help me add to the list, please?
Jurassic Park
Tremors
Armageddon
Deep Impact
Dante's Peak
The Core
10.5
Godzilla (?)
The Day After Tomorrow
***Additions - Thanks!***
Journey to the Center of the Earth
Volcano
Aftershock: Earthquake in New York
Earthquake
Asteroid
Hard Rain(?)
Firestorm(?)
Eruption
Smilla's Sense of Snow
Evolution

there's a great scene in Vertigo where they look at the circles in the cross-section of a tree.
There might be geologists in that weird Evolution movie with David Duchovney, though I guess they're mostly biologists with some paleontology thrown in.
But my favorite has got to be Geology Made Me Gay with David Hasselhoff, a teenage Hugh Jackman, and Charles Nelson O'Reilly in his last film role.

I don't remember for sure, but there may have been a geologist-type in Them!
It's an old B&W horror film with giant, radiation-mutated ants that move into the LA sewer system.
Edited because I can't type this early on a Monday

I notice that 'geology made me gay' with David Hasselhoff is suspiciously absent from Slippy's "GeoMan Movie List for attracting hot babes".
Don't have the 'rocks' for it?
;)
I'm gonna have to enroll in some weekend or evening courses to learn me some stuff about rocks and stuff.
Bring on ze babez! |
