Argh, when i save a file from PS 5.5; it doesn't save the EXIF info. Am I missing something?
Also, I tried just resizing it with Picassa and it didn't let me get the filesize small enough.
Any help with either of these issues would be greatly appreciated. I would really like to shift the WB a smidge and put a little bit of USM after resize.

You're right, PS 5.5 doesn't save EXIF. But it should be on your unedited original.
Any why are you resizing with something else when you've got PS anyway? It seems like an unnecessary extra step when PS's Save For Web does such an excellent job. And why editing after the resize? Every step you include after resizing adds to the file size. :/

I apologize for the confusion. I was frustrated with PS, so i was trying to use picassa instead. |

Just a note: your entry should not contain the EXIF info -- in fact, the site will strip it out when you upload.
In Photoshop 5.5, the easy way is to SaveAsCopy and check the box which says "Omit Non-Image Data" |

The tutorial on preparing for submission recommends USM AFTER resizing and before saving for web. |

Why don't you try the GIMP, it's a full featured photo editing program that's free.
Here's acouple of links to get you going:
GIMP Users Group
download GIMP for Windows here
GIMP Users Manual
GIMP Plug-ins
UFRaw - the RAW Converter for GIMP

I think i am gladi read this post. I entered aphoto in this one, my first chalange. I did all my editing in PS 8. The EXIF data was intact on the file I submited but I did not submit it as a seprate file. Do I need to submit the EXIF data file sepratly to enter this challange?

All you need is to hang on to your original file which contains the EXIF in case you are asked to verify it. The EXIF data on your entry is not used for validation because it's not original. |

No, only the image for now. You have to submit the original with the EXIF intact only if it is requested.
Oops, mk already answered it. Sorry.
