Most games I've seen in the European leagues, if there's a red card, there's only 1. |
I'm not referring to just the MLS and I am not unfamiliar with European leagues. I lived in Germany for four years and England for three (Go Liverpool).
In European leagues, I've especially seen the penalty shots evened out when the first penalty shot is successful. |

There's a lot of crap that the players try to get away with so it's nice to see the refs calling a few things.
With some of the players in this game you'd think they were diving into a swimming pool. |

The acting by the player who is supposedly fouled is what kills me. That is probably the thing that makes it hardest for the refs.
I hate to see a grown man flail and roil on the ground when he was barely touched. Just play honestly and win with you soccer skills, not you acting skills. I totally lose respect for even the best players, regardless of the which team they play for, when they resort to acting out their response to supposedly getting fouled rather than just playing the game.
Allow the refs to call the fouls based on reality, not reaction. |

Only the goalkeeper is supposed to handle the ball. If an outfield player handles it, it's a free kick to the other team. This is why this game is the real football. ;>Þ |

Com'n... there is no term "footled" the ball, so I had to use "handled"... Geeeeesh... Politically correction is killing me :P |

I can't remember which game this was but the best call I've seen from a ref is:
Player 1 gets fouled and bounces up indicating to the ref that the player that fouled him should get a card. Ref gives player 1 a card.
That was perfect. |

First red card was dead on. If the victim has blood streaming down his face, it's a no brainer.
Second red card was iffy. It was not two-footed as indicated above, but it was spikes up.
The third red (which was the second yellow on Eddie Pope) was pretty ridiculous. It was a regular old foul.
The disallowed goal was an excellent call.
I have no confidence against Ghana. Their footwork and short passing game was top notch. We haven't even scored a goal yet. |

that is true that we haven't scored a goal yet. but our aggressiveness today was top notch. And yes, three red cards in game is ridiculous. Especially on sliding tackles that were overly eager at the worst. but everything is lining up for a fun final sets of matches. will be fun.
