I had a couple responses to my earlier post, but since I haven't heard anything back from them yet I thought I would go ahead and keep trying myself. Does this look even almost good?

The man and boy in blue look more soft than the baby. |

Did you edit to add the baby?? The lighting on him looks different. |

Baby looks pretty faked, the lighting is the hardest part to change about.

i've been working on it too Crystal.. I think your work on it is better than mine by far. The Baby's photo isnt as sharp as the fishing photo and the color is different in it.
I think you did a good job on it and your hubby will like it no matter what! |

Without playing with the image I would say lighten/soften the baby around the edges. It's waay too dark in those areas in comparison to the rest of the image. Since I assume you already have the baby in a separate layer I would make a selection of that and use curves to brighten the shadow area in the histogram. Also, using that same selection run a softening effect (blur or some PS action) on just the baby which should reduce the sharpening difference. |

A little less contrast on the baby (or adjust curves as said earlier), soften a little and add a very soft shadow between the baby's head and shoulder. Also, adjust the blue reflected on dad's shirt in front of the baby's face to be more neutral.
I really don't think your too far away, just a few little details to mask the edit.
Good luck,

My advice would be to go with the shot you've got. You'll eventually get a great shot of the three of them that you really like, and when you do, your edited one will start to look really cheezy to you. Give him what you've got. He'll love that you got a great photo for him! |

Ok...here's another go at it...I've got to send it to good old Wal Mart before 6:00 and it's 4:00 now! Any more suggestions?

you could try dodging and burning to make highlights and shadows, but the real problem is the light on the baby's face is exactly the opposite of the other two. i would put him on the other side. (i tried, but there is too much detail missing for me to clone in). here is an exaggerated burning job, plus unsharp mask to make it softer (you could probably also use the sponge tool)

If you want my opinion... what you've got probably wouldn't pass muster in a dpc editing challenge, but your husband and kids will Love it. They won't be looking for shadows and color casts etc, just for the feelings of the relationship... |

LMAO at JRalston!!! Thanks everyone for your help, but I just went ahead and got it printed up. I'm not going to tell my husband that I cut and pasted the baby in there...I don't think he'll ever know! LOL! I think it's one of those things where if you never knew it had been done, you wouldn't notice...you know what I mean? Thanks again!
