OK, I am starting to freak out. The past few times I have used my 20D i have been getting this message (Err 01) with big lenses like the Canon 100-400 and the Canon 70-200. The lens doesn't synch with the camera and the aperture shows just 00. If I turn the camera off, take the lens off and the put it back on it goes away but it eventually comes back. Has this happened to anyone before? How serious is it and how do I resolve it?

June

Edit: typo

If the aperture is showing 00, then probably either the contacts between camera and lens could do with a little clean or the weight of the lens is perhaps causing the lens to sag on the mount slightly, thus causing some of the contacts to open-circuit. Perhaps try cleaning contacts on both camera and lens, gently using a pencil eraser.

Thanks Alan. Anyone else had this problem?

I've only had it in cold weather and only once. It seemed to be related to condensation on the contacts. (happened going from warm car outside)
