No, I didn't have a chance to get any after makeup. She was going to a different salon for that and it was right before they all met up for the limo. The only other's I got were these two, one has no post processing at all, the other does (obviously). But there was no where else to take a picture where we were. There was actually like 60 people packed into a semi small backyard so it was hard to even keep other people from accidently walking into the pictures. And it was about 90 degrees that day.

Gotta hate when the light doesn't cooperate, don't you? I tried a few things on the Beatles entry - not sure it helped much. In hue/saturation, I desaturated the yellow a lot. Used a bit of dodge on the side of her face in shadow, and burn on her arm and forehead. Used the blur tool to blur the demarcation line on her arm a bit, but I think the burn is a little overdone.

My turn to go on vacation - headed for week of R&R, visiting with family, and golf. I'll catch up on critiques after I get there, assuming dad has wireless. :-)
Gotta go pack warm clothes - the high at dad's (in West Virginia) is lower than our lows have been! |

Have a great trip! Don't forget to take lots of pictures, LOL. I don't have anything on either rollover, but I put in Shadows and Framed tonight for next week. |

I'll be working to stay up to date on everyone's shots as well. |

I have been traveling this week with no access to the internet. I have not been able to post or comment, but will be able to return next week. Sorry.

Thanks all for comments to date! I'm not sure if they make me a better photog, but I mostly appreciate knowing if what I saw in a photo is seen by others. I also like knowing when others DON'T see what I saw, or see something different. So all comments are much appreciated!
And Kirsty, are you sure you're only 17?? You seem remarkably well-grounded and awfully darn smart for such a youngun'... :-)
For those that commented on the reflections in the windows of the "Empty Room" shot - I could have cloned them out, and it's good to know that some found them distracting. I, on the other hand, because I tend to be weird, happen to think it's kinda neat to have those reflections there. But that's just me. :-)
I don't have anything in either of the current open challenges - I do have one in Shadows, and if I get my butt in gear, I hope to have one in Desolation (though it will be edited on the laptop.) |

After I read Louis' comment (oh, I miss his comments, they're so insightful...) I kinda appreciated the reflections more, but from a pure eye-candy perspective I prefer it without. But then, maybe it subconsciously holds the composition together, I don't know.

Would I lie to you? :-o hehe, thats the thing with the internet, I could actually be a 71yrold guy and you would never know (well, except for self-portraits, but the bravest I've been was with a shadow lol.
haha :P yeah, course I'm 17. I'm at sixth-form atm, but only for a couple more weeks. woooo!
And you my dear, seem so nice for such an old fogey :P Don't say you didn't see that coming! :P
;)
I've got slack with entries since Beatles, what with putting off revision and enjoying the sunshine. I'm on my last Take Two then I'll get the Open challenges done before Sunday's rollover, but I may not get a chance to leave comments next week 'cause I'm quite busy with exams, so apologies in advance, I shall do what I can anyway.

Heh. But I think much younger than I am. Too bad my body doesn't always agree, though.

I'm in Desolation now, but it was a kinda "really should enter a challenge....hey, that photo I took yesterday kinda fits...let's edit the hell out of it" so I'm not that confident lol
I really want to do Bokeh or 30secs, but dunno if I'll get the time.
Really really shouldnt have spent the evening editing my entry when I should've been revising. If I fail tomorrow's exam, I'd better get a ribbon at least! ha, not likely with this entry...we'll see

Thanks for the extra comments Deb. Here's that shot in color . I think the fuzziness also had to do with the wind blowing onto that screen as both sets of doors were open. |

I think I've commented on all entries for all members now.
I dont have any picture in a challenge now, and don't know when I'll enter another challenge, but I hope it will be soon.
I noticed that some members of the trading post havn't commented on my picture for some time, hope you'll get to it soon, as I love reading comments on my pictures

Kelli - I think I like the color version better, but the B&W was probably the right one to enter that particular challenge.
I think I'm caught up, but if I've missed anyone, please do let me know. You can also let me know if you have particular pictures in your portfolios you want comments on.
I have one in Desolation that's doing well; one in Bokeh that's very average (which is fine by me.)
Not entering Motion Blur, and if I do enter "Glass", you do NOT, I repeat NOT, need to critique it after the challenge. I am well aware of the very obvious flaws and undesirable qualities, but I may enter it anyway. Why? Can't take any of this too seriously, right? :-) It'll make at least a couple of people laugh, I hope... And who knows - with some luck, I may ribbon. Brown counts!

I'm also in Desolation and Bokeh. Desolation is doing fairly average for me (in other words, high 4's) and Bokeh is low 5's. I'm also not entering Motion Blur and have one in for Glass.
I saw you ordered a new camera Deb! Congrats on that. Of course your already great scores will now increase. I'll look forward to that happening for you. |

Bear in mind that I'm firmly of the camp that better equipment does not a better photographer make. It's just more toys. I'm an overgrown kid - I like new toys. :-) |

I am in desolation (sitting on a whopping 5.8) and 30 second (an even better 5.9). I will be in motion blur but expect a bunch of DNMC comments and my glass entry will be mediocre at best. Hasnt been a fun time since my take two score thats for sure. |

Just remember if it's not "fun", you're putting too much stock into DPC scores. :-) |

I was in desolation, got one in Bokeh that's not doing as well as I'd expected. I pulled out of motion Blur at the last minute, cos I wasnt sure how much it met the challenge, and wasn't convinced of its legality. I shall probably put it out for comments when the voting's over if a couple of people dont mind.
I have lots to catch up on now exams are over. Apologies for the lateness.
ETA: in order to catch up, may have to skip on the full comment format and leave slightly shorter ones this time.
Deb - whats the new camera??

The advantage to being an old geezer - when you have spare cash, you spend it. :-) I'm to the point where the basics - food, roof over head, basic transport, Starbucks mochas - are all covered, so the rest is gravy. Every once in awhile I go a little nuts. I'd say it's a spontaneous purchase, but in reality nothing I do is spontaneous. I think, I ponder, I research, I ponder more, then I spend money like there's no tomorrow and immediately suffer from guilt. Then I get over the guilt part (though I suspect my mom will end up with a new refrigerator to cover the guilt part on this one.)
Stay tuned to the profile - I'll let you know when it gets updated. :-) |

I am finally back and have recovered from my trip. I never expected to have so little access to an internet cable, so I opologize for just now getting caught up with my critiques. I think I have covered them all for everyone. Let me know if I missed something.
I managed to get into the blurred motion and Glass with a twist challenges. Also added photos to the Flowers and Straight from the camera challenges. ...So I guess I am back.

Welcome back, and thanks for the comments! So where does someone from Hawaii go on a trip, given that everyone else likes to go there? |

Woah, I've FINALLY caught up on commenting, that was hard work. I'm pretty sure I haven't missed any.
I'm going to have to regretfully withdraw from the group now - I'm going away to Spain for the next 7 weeks. I'll have my camera with me (only 20GB space though, and only solar panels to charge it from lol) and I'll obviously be accessing the Internet from time to time, for emails home etc, so I'll try and keep updated with the group, but don't see myself commenting in any detail (maybe the odd WTG when people get PBs and/or ribbons etc which I know they will!) Not sure what local internet cafes will be like, but I'm gonna take the personal GIMP, so you never know, I may find myself in a challenge or two, or simply uploading to my portfolio (more likely). When I come back I'll share the best of my photos, I plan a week of solid editing in September before I start work.
Whilst I'd love to come crawling back to the group in September, I'll be moving away from home, starting a job , househunting etc so don't know how much DPCing I'll be doing (also depends on Internet access). I'll definitely keep popping in though, or else I'll be suffering withdrawal symptoms!
Thanks to everyone here for your input & encouragement - its been such a useful exercise, both from giving and receiving comments.
I've sent out individual PMs so people don't miss this.
EDIT TO ADD: I've left a brief comment or two on everyone's portfolios, just as an extra to say thanks (sorry for those who only got one, its nearly 1 in the morning and i have 2 days to pack and tie up loose ends)

Aww, you can't leave! You like my weird stuff! :-)
Seriously, though, it sounds like a blast - have a great time in Spain and take lots of pictures. Do you know where you're going to be working when you get back? I'm moving to Germany in November - who knows, maybe we can get together some time in the future.
Thanks for all your excellent, in-depth comments - very very much appreciated!! |
