When I read posts I often see these terms used as if the person is really laughing as if they were speaking. Do people really talk like this?
"I was trying to get a pic lol and it didn't come out right haha and it didn't score so well lol and I can't understand why lol. I am not complaining lol, but am curious...what did I do wrong lol?"
Read the posts...do you really talk like this? Why do people have to put this in their posts? It is so annoying and makes no sense. Makes an otherwise intelligent post seem trite.
Just an opinion...shoot me for it if you must, but it is annoying as hell.

Ok.... I'll bite.
Yes, sometimes those emoticons/chat speak are overdone.
Yet it is often the only way to judge the tone of what was written. Without the benefit of body language, we often rely on the emoticons to read everything properly, the way it was MEANT in the first place.
I'd rather put up with a few annoying extras, than to be totally left in the dark about intent and tone. |

I usually put "lol" to indicate I'm joking around or that I'm being sarcastic.
If I find something funny, I might just leave a one liner- "lol"
I rarely find myself literally Laughing out Loud, but sometimes I do--
And I can honestly say I haver Never actually Been, "Rolling on the Floor, Laughing my Ass Off"-- NEVER, :)

Yes.. I know way too many ppl who even speak in netspeech.. They say Lol while speaking and you're left wondering why aren't they really laughing out loud if it's that fuuny.
Half the time I'm termed 'uncool' because I never really figure out what people are saying when they say LoL. I sound like an old grandparent saying "Roll, But why do you want me to roll."

i lol fixed the lol title for you lol. :)
and no i don't talk like that, i usually save my smilies and lols for the end of my message. i have found that when people put them in the middle of sentences, it is usually because they are trying to come across as lighthearted and joking, but in reality, they are not. |

If they wanted to type it as they speak it then for many of them it would be closer to "Like, I was trying to get this pic, ya know? and it didn't come out right and it didn't score so good so I'm like 'wtf?', ya know? and I like can't understand why lol. I am not complaining, ya know? but am curious...what did I, like, do wrong lol?"

I don't use lol because it's too ambiguous. I use smilies for irony. And I use hahaha when I really am laughing (or would be if the matron weren't watching...).

...but do you really laugh like "hahaha" or more like an evil snicker, or belly laugh like BWAHAHAAAHAAA!!! ? After thinking about it, I never really have laughed my ass off - I just checked and it's still there. As long as I'm confessing, I can't say I've actually "Rolled On the Floor" either. ...well except when I was doing the milk-spewing shot. |

I dont laugh. I dont smile. I dont even know what a smiley is.
Laughing or smiling is a sign of weakness. It is a useless gesture.
We should be 100% dead serious in the forums. |
