Here's one of my concerns...on my desktop this image is very dark and on my laptop, it looks perfect. What does it look like on your monitors and any comments are welcome. This is my first attempt at a serious b&w. Thanks

Looks good, but on my monitor there are lots of horizontal lines running across the image. |

yes, that's intentional. I like the old-style look that it gives |

Looks fine on my monitor.
I would brighten the image a bit with levels by bringing the white point a bit closer to the left. I would also up the contrast with curves, but I tend to like by B&W images fairly high contrast, so you might want to get someone else's opinion on that as well. |

My 0.02¢
Overall lacking a bit in contrast, and the vignette appearance is a bit too dark, particularly in the top right & left corners.
One trick that can bump the contrast in some of the highlight sections is to use the manual sharpening tool, somewhere around 15-20% opacity and a soft brush. Drag over areas like the bricks and it will lighten them and increse the contrast naturally. If the effect is too much, dodging the highlights will have similar effect.

I don't want to sound critical, but the horizontal lines don't give me an old-style feeling but rather a bad video capture feeling. If you want to make it feel old, get rid of the lines and use some added noise or a color cast.
I'd try to balance the contrast a bit more and to clone out the light and its pole. Once you clone that out you can make a more interesting post-edit exposure of the rest of the photo. The lower left is now way to dark.
