The Brooks NPPA Student Chapter is conducting a special presentation dealing with digital imaging workflow and archiving. This event is open to students and members of the general public who are looking to improve their digital imaging workflow.

Despite digital imaging's widespread use in photojournalism, the concerns of what to do with the photographs once they're taken can still be very confusing for newbies and seasoned professionals alike. A few of the specific topics to be addressed are critical to photojournalists - where speed with accuracy is crucial - include batch captioning IPTC data, quick reviews of shoots for the best photographs to transmit, how to transmit files in various formats, explanation of the merits of various formats including RAW, how to organize, store and retrieve images, and how to safely backup images both locally and online.

Dennis Walker, Founder and President of Camera Bits, the makers of Photo Mechanic, and Grover Sanschagrin, PhotoShelter's VP of Marketing and Sales will be conducting presentations and answering questions at the event.

The meeting will be held Friday, June 9th, 2006 at Brooks' Ventura, Calif., campus - 5301 N Ventura Ave, Ventura, 93001 - in the Screening Room from 8 p.m. to around 10:45 p.m. Grover and Dennis will be giving a joint presentation the merits of Photo Mechanic/PhotoShelter, and the ways in which the two systems work together.

With over 120 members, the student chapter at Brooks Institute of Photography of the National Press Photographers Association is the largest in the country. The organization serves as an educational tool, outlet and voice for the students in the Visual Journalism department of Brooks Institute, hosting biweekly meetings and publishing a Website - //www.brooksnppa.org - that promotes student work.

NPPA student chapter meetings are designed to provide both an educational experience and a student forum. Working professionals are invited to give lectures and demonstrations on topics ranging from ethics in photojournalism, to wildfire safety, location lighting and other pertinent subjects.

The Website currently hosts The Week in Pictures, multimedia projects created by students, podcasting, documentary projects, as well as session interviews with faculty and working professionals - which are now also available via podcast - along with useful information on internships, scholarships and reading lists.
