I'm guessing that wide angle would be appropriate, making your kit lens the best choice. Depending on the light, we may have to crank up our cameras to ISO BIG NUMBER, but I would strongly suggest you get one of THESE if you can spare $75- especially given your affinity for portraits.

379mi....6hrs 33min. <----I dunno guys! Is it worth it? I want to go to Kentucky thats a must (at some point), but ouch. Thats a long drive, and means I have to get a motel.

It's right HERE near Bowling Green, KY. The cave spans the area between Pig, Straw, and Bee (how utterly Kentucky).

Woa dude.. that's far. It is 830 miles from me and should be around the same for you. Almost as far as Florida.

I don't think I'm ready to that long of a drive. Are you doing carpool with someone or driving by yourself?
