At least I knew someone was going to recommend me for DQ this week..*sigh*

Don't worry. Just ride it out.. Submit the proof when asked, and so long as it is all legit, you'll be fine. :D

I'm in the middle of submitting right now. Original file is 1.4 MB and it's taking awhile to attach. I knew it would be, though...I should have submitted this BEFORE the challenge.

Think of it as a compliment Mavrik... It means someone doesn't have a clue as to how you pulled it off. I guess congratulations is in line?

Thanks - and good point. I will eagerly hope for and wait for my note - and if not, I'll take the lesson.

Here's what DPR say about EXIF - with some links for you.

Mavrik, on another forum somewhere, someone posted this link:
//www.irfanview.com/
The software is free, simple and good enough for me to use as my only editor (I am doing my darndest to depend on skill and not computer manipulation to make my images great). It also pulls detailed EXIF info off the original (and keeps it with copies if you use the program to save) and allows you to include other information (copyright, byline, categories, locations and dates, etc) in the same manner.

Just an option. Hope it helps.

Shari

Thanks all. I got the thumber one for now and I'll see how it goes. I thought I had saved the very very original, but I don't know. It's possible I looked at it in PS before I put it in my 'dpc originals' folder, I guess. It won't happen again!

do you think your score was adversely effected by this problem?

I don't know how the voters' minds worked, really. I think some people marked it down because of it and others marked it up because they couldn't figure it out. Overall, I didn't think it would hit 5.5 and it's at 5.7, so I'm going to take it and not complain. I think it would be bad if voters didn't listen to the advice when submitting a dq request to vote on the picture as if it were legal.

My photo in the "Blue" Challenge was reccomended for a DQ. I submitted the original and never heard anything else about it. Anyone know anything about it? I'm pretty curious. I thought it might have had something to do with the one pixel black line at the bottom (this was before the no boarder rule), but since every photo I take has that, it's kinda an "in camera feature."

Glad it worked out for you Mavrik~

A friend of mine was DQ'ed this week. They are pretty upset about it. Someone left a rude comment the first day. Then they got a message saying they where DQ'ed, and left no way to challenge it.

The picture is part of a wall of a building. I see lots of pictures of buildings, but I know this one may fall into a gray area as to what is acceptible.

It's too bad. My friend, who introduced me to this site, said that they might not come back here again.

Tell your friend not to worry. My 3rd or 4th entry was DQd, but I kept on submitting and now I finally have a ribbon :) If I had left the site way back then I would have never got it.

I hope she's back (as I turned her onto this site). It was just a misreading of the rules and one of the regulars here lit into her and made some pretty strong statements. Unnecessary and uncalled for IMHO. You guys (EVERYONE) need to look and see how new/old a member is before laying into them.

A DQ is sometimes very sad. I got one one day too. It is easy to make a mistakes.
04/01/2003 09:08:26 PM · #20
There is never any reason to be rude when leaving comments on the entries, even if you think a photo has broken the challenge rules. Of course "rude" is a term up to interpretation, too. One of voters who made a rude comment to me ended up critiquing my photo and he was apologetic for his original comments (which I had written to him about when he made them due to the flaming tone), and did a good job with the critique. Ya never know.

I voted on the first day (Monday) and didn't see any that I thought would qualify for a DQ. Now I'm going through and leaving comments on many of them. I wish I had time to leave comments on all of them; they're really helpful most of the time. I loved your last image, Mavrik. I often went back to it just because I enjoyed it. It made me feel nostalgic and warm and fuzzy!

There are a few images this round that I keep going back to just because they make me feel good, or bad or something that I can't place my finger on. I think they are marvelous and they usually end up with high scores from me. Nice work whoever you are!

David,

Thanks for the comments about my last picture. I'm glad you didn't DQ me too! haha When this is all over, I'd be interested which ones you liked. ;)

As for the DQ thing - I just wish people wouldn't be so harsh when people make HONEST mistakes.

Remember that requesting a DQ, even if you are sure it has violated a rule, you are to vote/comment on the image AS IF IT IS LEGAL and leave the DQ issue up to the site council. Therefore, logic says if you request a DQ on an image, you should be especially complimentary since "they sure fooled you..."

I'd hope we do that anyway - especially as it isn't possible to find out who submitted a shot while voting on it.
