I started out in the 4.xxx range last night, but I'm slowly rising today.

Ok, I think someone eventually will take the effort to tell me why it sucks. It's not a bad pic though, meeting the challenge in every aspect, but the mass seems to think otherwise.

edit:
Ok someone understood the message in my photo, come here my friend and I'll hug you.

Woohoo..2 comments so far. Neither really explains my score. One actually only reminds me where I took the photo.

What is a frame?

Details: Capture an image where the foreground subject frames the rest of the image.

I have found many shots, some even great pictures, that does not fulfill the challenge - but I am fairly new here. Tell me if I am being too harsh, please.

... foreground subject frames the rest of the image ...

So, the frame must be foreground, not background or anything else, right? A frame in itself, with nothing behind it is not in the foreground. A collection of frames on display, frames in the background, or where an object in the foreground is only one side out of four? (as a line of threes with a sun above it)

But what is a frame? Does it have to be square/rectangular, can it also be a circle, ellipse or other forms? Must it be unbroken? Mine is not rectangular, but it is an unbroken frame, clearly in the foreground of the main image, which is far away ...

Best not to try to be to literal. In a challenge situation you'd generally want the frame to be obvious, though, and likely want it to frame the main subject. Most of the time a frame is used to draw further attention to the main subject and possibly add perspective and/or viewer interest to the composition.

A frame does not have to have any specific shape nor does it necessarly have to enclose the main subject on all four sides.

Framing is a composition technique. All it means is that something in the image surrounds (partially or otherwise) something else in the image.

i am thinking my entry doesn't have enough DOF to present that it is infact framed by the object in the foreground even though in reality were talking about the subjects being a few hundred feet apart.

Although I like my photo and i think it is technically sound, espeically for the challenge, it isnt performing as i had liked because the crop, dof, and size of the image being used to vote on. I am really disappointed but i believe i am learning more from being critcial of others and appling them to mine, again mainly because no one is commenting on mine.

if i had this to do over i would almost certainly not use these subjects again and opt for smaller more managible subjects. And orginally I thought i would just have to drive around all week with a huge frame in my backseat. :) Probably should have done that anyways.

In agree about the non-literal part, but I think the "generally obvious" is subjective. I think a successful frame is noted, but not obvious as framing initially, but still directs the eyes to the central focus/subject. This is probably easier acheived to have the elements OOF around the edges and asymmetrical like trees/foliage and such, but symmetrical framing can be very powerful.

i finally brought myself to voting- this challenge has gotten my highest scores ever and i am really impressed. I actually gave a ten, which i never ever do, and added it to my favorite list.

I did receive a comment about my juxtapostion- Honestly that was unintentional until I made the title, i was aware of it but not done with purpose. My current score is still my personal worst which troubles me but as i added earlier in this thread, i think i have learned a lot because of it.

Bwahahaha! I turned on my scores and its.... a ....

3.84

Hahahahaha. Oh man. I get a sick perverse kind of pleasure when people are so stuck looking at the walls of the box they make fools out of themselves. Not to mention I now get the rites of being able to whine about being a misunderstood artist. LOL Won't be my first brown either. :)

Just a friendly note to make everyone feel better. :)
