I want to buy a Hoya Circular Polarizer for the Canon kit lens. The lens is 18-55. What size polarizer should I get? Also does the polarizer help protect the lens?

Thanks

It's 58mm doesn't really protect the lens per se. For future reference filter size is usually printed on the lens. Look for a zero with a line through it, the filter size in mm will be right next to it.

To help protect it just get a UV filter. you won't want the circular polarizer on your lens all the time anyways, but you can keep the UV filter on there and you can use other filters on top of it.
