As a new member (about a couple of months now), I voted a few challenges, entered a few... and I would like to share with you what I look for in challenge photos... and also get your view too.

1-Challenge subject: First I look for the subject of the photo. It is very important, because some of the photos are so good but because subject doesn't match, gets low points from me.
2-Clarity: I am not sure why some of the photos out of focus, or blurry... and still entered. I believe out of focus or blurry photos are big time losers.
3-Art part of the photo: Most of the photos, as I noticed so far, looks like taken just to be there... that's it. Most of those looks like point and shoot (no offence just because I got SLR now)... objects in the photo, angle of the photo... I can see the point, I see a nice photo, but missing something... where is art?
4-Colors: Even basic editing gives you option to fix photos. Some of them looks like right out of machine, no editing (sharpening, contrast etc). Some of the pictures don't need to be edited but I think most need a little touch.

I never gave 10 to anyone yet. I try to keep out 1 and 2s from my voting, although I gave a few 2s, I am sorry :/

So, what you guys look for when you vote :)

I have moved to a pro forma for voting which I include in my comments for a picture. I was going to use it on an earlier challenge but will be using it for the first time on one of the current challenges.

Challenge:
Challenge Description:

A Score re meeting the challenge
Does not meet challenge
Clearly meets the challenge
Epitomises the idea behind the challenge

B Composition & Aesthetics
No discernible compositional form or merit
Snap-shot like composition
Well composed, aesthetically pleasing
An exceptional composition/exceptional aesthetics

C Technical Considerations
Technically flawed
Technically OK
Technically well executed
Evidence of technical mastery/wizardry

D WOW Factor
Not special/ordinary
Has some degree of impact
Obvious impact
Slaps you in face

Total score:

I am currently linking it into a spreadsheet to auto generate the scores from the indicated "feeling" in a category and will differentiate between Basic and Advanced editing, too.

This is way over the top but... :-)

Number 3 and a little number 1. The rest is irrelevant.
