I've got a problem, when I try to take IR photos I get strange flares(usually perfectly centered). I'm using a canon 350d, ef-s18-55mm and a hoya ir filter.

Does anyone know whats causing this and how to get rid om them?

Funny enough, I have been noticing a small colouring in the centre of mine...much more and it might be considered a flare. I use a Nikon D70s with a Hoya R72, 50mm.

hmm... could you post some example pics?

and do you use your lens hood? i always use mine, especially for ir, since i'm in bright light and the exposure times are so long...

I'm no expert on IR, but I know this is reported frequently. I believe it's internal reflection in the optics, and some lenses are much worse than others. Using the hood would be my first suggestion as well. Next would be trying a different lens.

Yes you are right. When I use my 70-300 I never got them. Awesome. I don't like using my lens hood specifically because of the constant taking on and off of the filter for focusing.

I usually block the sunlight from above with my hands or my baseball cap.
