So my girlfriend and I were going to go up to a friends cabin this weekend near Tahoe but that fell through and I am supposed to be planning a trip within 1 to 6 hours away from the Sf bay area for friday and saturday night. We just decided to start planning a couple of days ago but partly due to my hopefully pending PB in the shadows challenge and my constant updating finger I have not done much in terms of research or planning.(But will keep that between us.) I am looking to hopefully spend less than a $100 dollars a night on a hotel. I was thinking of going somewhere either near the ocean in the central coast or anyother suggestions or secret spots you like would to share would be geatly appreciated. Our last trip was up to Sonoma to wine country so I would like to do something else. I am just starting to look on websites, so if anybody has some suggestions on where to look on the internet that would be great too. We like to hike and be outside and aren't really into gambling, but any places around tahoe you might know of would be nice too.

Check out the Youth Hostels at Montara or Pigeon Point Lighthouses (South of SF), or at Point Reyes (North, in Marin County). |

If your ventures take you just north of SF, Muir Woods is nice to visit. |

Drive south on Hwy 1 to Cayucos(small, seaside town). From there check out Hearst Castle and Cambria. Hwy 1 is a great drive. Cayucos only about 15 minutes from Morro Bay which is another nice place. Nice outdoor activities, hiking, surfing, etc. and crowds likely to be a little less than Santa Cruz, Monterey, or Carmel. Hotel $$ a little less as well. |

Thanks for the ideas everybody, I went to school in San Luis Obispo so I know all about Cayucos/Morro Bay area. I'll keep looking for somewhere to stay.

Well since you went to SLO, how about Cambria? The Hearst Castle area is beautiful this time of year ;) |

Another idea is Point Reyes. There are a few B&B over there that are about $75-$100/night ;) |

Thanks everyone for you suggestions, ended up dinding a bed and breakfast in Petaluma/Point Reyes area for about $100 dollars a night. Thanks again for all the ideas.
