It stands for disqualify. It means your photo can be removed for breaking the rules. In this case, it means that your exposure must be 30 seconds or longer.

Hehe, I don't think so! This challenge is gonna be filled up with great entries. I'm putting my money (and a beer) on you for this one! |
Crap... Why did you have to go and say that! I can never refuse a dare and I had my mind set on the bokeh challenge! :) |
I wanna shoot them both, I bet I'm not the only one... :-)

I'm really looking forward to viewing more than entering this challenge due it being an open challenge (WHY?????). This challenge screams for cloning out the noise. Oh well, I hope at least kirbic comes out of his semi-challenge entry retirement for this one.
I bet at least a third of the top ten will be using EOS-5Ds. |

basic editing...I think that means no cloning. |

I think Basic Challenges are more fun! Let the games begin!

grr...I think my Canon A80 only goes up to 15sec. I assume there is no way I can force the camera to take a longer exposure? Maybe I'll have to borrow a friends camera or shoot Bokeh. |

the fact that they asked for a 30sec exposure and not a 10minute one kinda says a lot. |

Grrrrrrrrr to.
Mine is only 15s. Why not pick 15s as most cameras do that.
Originally posted by BeeCee: Most cams in use here can do to 15 sec, right? Why not use that? I know most challenges cut out certain people for various reasons, but this seems like a HUGE chunk to disbar.
I dont' mind too much for myself, as I like the looks of bokeh, but I hesitate at regular, open challengs that are rather elitist, on principle. |

Yes and your Canon S2IS only goes up to 15s.

Hehe, I think I´ll just persuade Henny to enter her first challenge and see if she can kick your butt in the 30 second exposure challenge :) |

The title of this thread is highly misleading: MORE than 30 seconds is fine, LESS than 30 seconds is DQable...

Thats what i was thinking. At first after reading the title i thought it had to be 30 exactly. hopefully all will read the challenge description and no one uses the wrong shutter speed based solely on the title of this thread.

I'm curious to know...Are there so many cameras without the "bulb" setting?
(Just wondering since so many have posted here that their equipment limits them to maximum 15s shutter speed.) |

Yes - 'Bulb' is quite rare on P&S cameras. |

Maybe someone on SC could edit the title of this thread?

Sorry, that's what happens when I start threads too late at night. SC, please correct? |

I have the Sony DSC-W5 and it does not have a "Bulb". The shutter speeds in manual do however go from 1/1000 to 30" (down to 1/2000 in program). |

i guess this is that SLR challenge everyone wanted. If you're scared of the P&S just say so, don't try to pawn it off as another challenge. We're on to you......

hmm... I wonder does 'Bulb' mode save the actual shutter speed to the EXIF? - Or does it just record it as 'Bulb'? |
