Last couple of days I've been thinking about taking a time out of DPC. I'm getting a bit frustrated about not improving here (quelle drama.. but hey, there's something I have to complain about, right? :P)

I know I have been improving, but more or less on my own personal level. I can achieve things with photography I couldn't like one year ago. Lots of editing had to be done, because I didn't know how I had to do it from the start. I have to say DPC and the people here had a big impact on my improvements. Lots of things I've learned from here, not only the technical aspects, but also the creativity. And that also comes in handy with my study!
Improving on a personal level is a good thing. I know, it's great to have a great crowd around you who likes your photography & style, and gives you a higher vote in advance.

But here's my point. Isn't it better to improve on a personal level, love the work you're making, getting the attention of a small crowd who comments on portfolio-images and sometimes even adds your image to their faves?

Well, honestly, that's even more important to me then the whole voting part. Of course, it's exciting to update your scores when you've entered, and checking the stats after voting, but "just" adding a photo to your portfolio & getting comments & faves for it, that's awesome.

Thanks guys, you are the best!!

You aren't improving one bit.
Send that camera to me postage due.
:D

pfffff - please yourself as an artist first.
Your scores may suffer, but when you switch off your computer, and your
work stands before you and makes you smile, then you acheived success.

You're improving gazillions, Hanneke Supergirl! I always click on your profile when you post because it's so much fun to see what you're coming up with. Thanks to this post, I decided I better make you a favorite now, because if you ever slow down on forum posting, I need to be able to find you again!

Here's a bump for you too, because you deserve lots of attention ;-)

Thanks for being a good inspiration to me.

You are improving Hanneke. You have heaps of friends and people look up to you. When you get stuck...there are people waiting to help you...no matter what time of the day or night. Now where can you get that except here. Stick around Hanneke...you would be upsetting many if you didn't. I mean...everyone needs a Supergirl!!

I still think you should just package up that 30 and ship it to me.
That way I won't improve either, but will have a heck of a smile!

You rawk, and should be proud of it.

Yea you are right, it is about self improvment. But is fun to take the challenge, you take photos you may not with out a reason to do so. Also it is nice to have people who love and know something about photography looking at your work. Any way I think your stuff is fresh and I love looking at the world through your eyes. Love the "don't bite me" shot! and so many others. So are you improving? or perfecting? Who is to say, but if your are having fun, it's all good.
