A year and half ago I bought a Canon 100-400 because I really wanted it. I had been coveting it for months and I could afford it at the time so I thought, "what the hell". However, I have used it about 5 times since I bought it. Hardly worth the investment, for me anyway. It is a great lens, it's just not a lens for me. I don't shoot wildlife or anything of the like. The only reasons I still have it is because it's not easy for me to part with my toys and because I still harbor the hope of going on an african safari sometime in the near future. So, the truth of the matter is, I don't need the lens and I hardly use it and I could do with something different. If you were in my shoes, would you sell it or would you hold on to it?

If the only intention is to use it on an African safari that may or may not happen then you may want to sell it now and just rent a lens when you go on the trip. (especially if you wouldn't/don't use the lens otherwise)

Think of it this way...if you sell it you could put that money towards a new toy!

Sell it and spend the money on a trip where you WILL take photos. ;-)

Depending on how much of a loss you'd take selling it, I'd probably sell it if you're really not using it.
If finances were not an issue, then sure, keep it around just in case but... if you want to free up finances to buy other kit you'd get more use out of... then I'd sell it.
From our last chat, I don't think you're planning to go on safari in the next 18 months in which case holding on to it may not be worthwhile just for that.

If i were you i would sell it, why ? simply because i can even think onlines of selling it. I mean you clearly know it is not serving you any purpose.

No, not unless you count both of us not getting paid a reason to congratulate us :(
