change it to mode -> grayscale then
change it to mode -> duotone. pick a brownish or orange color.
to simplify, hit load and you can pick out pre-selected colors. Tritone may look a little better also...

The easiest way for me in PS/CS is using the Photo filter if you are submitting to an advanced challenge.
These two were done with Photo filter under the Image > Adjustments menu.

This is how I usually do it too -- try Pantone 143 as the second color -- that's what Ive started with for years.
Traditionally, in a duotone, the secondary color carries most of the highlight information, so the tone curves for the two colors should be different. The lighter color will usually flatten out (pull the 100% marker down to about 70%), while the black (or darker color) shouldn't start until about 15-20% (set 20 = 0).
Photoshop comes with many excellent duotone presets -- really I'd suggest starting with one of them and then tweaking it to suit your particular image.
Example:

Even easier. Add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, click the colorize box, set your Hue 35-45, Saturation in 25-50, and viola. Add a curves adjustment layer to boost contrast.
