AHA... Now it makes a lot more sense ;)
Thanks :|

If this rule isn't broken it sure is bended a lot. |
ROFL! You gotta be kidding me :) |

If it makes you feel any better, the original shot never had a ribbon pinned to it. It landed in the 4th place, then got disqualified before the winning shot got disqualified so at no point has it had a ribbon next to it. |

I think I should clear this up a little...
1-terje's retake is from his other photo called "Natures King" (please check). I believe retake is to retake of the same idea, rather than same place and same thing...
2-Larus did not win the ribbon. He was DQed and that makes him qualified for the retake entry for the winning photo.
I believe challenge was voted and finalized the right way.

Naturally, if you are as literal as I am, I thought a retake applied to the same thing(s) and not the idea.
Doh!

"With 500 challenges under our belts, let's see what we've learned! Pick one of your own (non-ribbon winning) past entries and improve upon it based on the comments you received."
There is nothing says "the same thing"... There is a open door for "the same idea".
FYI only :P

Ok, I'm glad the misunderstanding has been cleared.
Congrats to both winners.

I think DQed winners should be able re-enter for "take II" challenges... Those images will not have ribbons after DQed, so logically they don't go into winning category... I also think take IIs should be done with the same idea or same things (optional)
Just in case if we ask the same question again (I don't think that will be soon either)
(I don't want to stir the subject over and over again. I was just wondering... that's all)

My apologies for bringing it up in the first place, Terje. I went through your list of entries (I was checking everyone against their originals because I wanted to see what everyone had done) and I saw nothing that seemed like an obvious precursor of this shot. But for sure, now that you've pointed me at it, "Nature's King" qualifies. I just missed it.
For what it's worth, I voted your entry the second highest of all, but I didn't do my voting by checking for previous entries, I just took them on faith.
Robt.

Ok, makes sense to me. The only reason I mention it was because Larus says it himself on the old picture i.e. "As far as I am concerned, this shot got a yellow ribbon ...."
No hard feelings, I just want everybody to follow the rules. We have had discussions like this before. When is it a rule and when is it not?
When is it a reason for DQ and when is it not?
In this case there were extra rules. In my opinon (because I read what Larus himself wrote) the rules were broken. Now I know he was just in the 4th place and therefore it should not be a problem. In my opinion he should have been DQed if it was originally a ribbon although DQed because this challenge was all about making things better and therefore it was mentioned in the challenge rules "non-ribbon winning".
