I've been looking to make myself a website. I have absolutely no knowledge of html or javascript or any of that stuff so smugmug seems like a good option. So my question is is it really that easy to use and customize? What has your experience with it been? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I found it very easy... Setup was a snap, about 2 hours of playing around trying to figure out how to get a personal banner and then I started doing searches on the forum they use and I had all the answers in seconds... It should have taken me about 20 min total to set it up the way I wanted. Updating it is soooo quick and easy. They are always doing updates to it and making it better. It seems ever few weeks there is a new feature that I go nuts over. It is a great website that just keeps getting better as you use it.
The help section is great and if you can not find the answer in 2 min, just do a search on the forums and walla! It really is that easy.
Shameless plug, save $5 by entering my code TIm5Ux7cCSkyA and I will also get $10bucks off this up and coming year.
Click the Long Island Wallpapers link below to see my smugmug site....
Lots of defaults....I changed it many times but the users seem to like their clean look best and I keep going back!

I believe you have to buy a pro site on smugmug to get a domain. Look under the membership classes.

You can only do this with a professional account....
My actual site is not WWW.LongIslandWallpapers.com but really is //derf.smugmug.com . They have info on using different companies to purchase the WWW. Name and what to enter in the given fields when signing up. They also give you recommendations on who to use. It takes a few days for the name to take effect and you will get a renewal notice from the company's every year, 2 years or 5 years depending on how long you purchase the WWW name for. It takes a little research but here is a link for you that will explain all of it. Some you will not understand, but if you follow the directions, it will work. This is the best part about smugmug... Many novice question are asked before...it is a big community.
Here is the help page on creating a name...LOT OF DIFFERENT COMPANYS
(I used Joker)
How to set up the WWW name in smugmug
Their main help page is here for some of the easier common questions
Smugmug Main help
***Don't go nuts reading it all now....take each task one at a time, You site will be up in no time, the name will take a day or 2 for it to start and you will have 2 days of playing with it to get it just right...It is plenty of time. When the name hits the page, everyone in you email will get a new cool favorite because you will already have some neat personal shots for them to see*** If I sound like a salesman...sorry but I am just sold on it!
I hope this helps

Oh, this step should only take about 8-15 minutes.....that is if you have a name that is available.... It took me 2 days to think of the name!
THE NAME IS EVERYTHING...I made mine LongIslandWallpapers.com and it was a big mistake... nobody remember the s at the end and I always get people saying "Page could not be found!!" I carry business cards and never say the name... I hand over a card! Make the name easy!!!!
I should have made it WWW.LIWallpaper.com That is much easier on people.
Got to go to bed, I have an early flight in the morning. Air to ground Shots of Eastern Long Island and will be back tomorrow afternoon with upwards of 800 shots if I am on the ball. I will be more than happy to help you along but I have a feeling that many others will answer first. This site is AWESOME for help and the users here are Great People. Between this site and smugmug...My edge is getting razor sharp... In a few years I will be able to split atoms!
